Guide To P044B OBD Error Code Solutions
OBD Code P044B - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "C" Circuit Range/Performance
EGR
sensor "C", EGR solenoid, EGR position sensor, and differential
pressure feedback EGR sensor - Are these components causing problem in your
engine? Then it more likely that you will notice an error OBD P044B. This is a
common type of diagnostic trouble code which includes all models and makes.
But, a few steps may vary depending on your engine make.
Learn More About OBD Error Code P044B
P044B
is a trouble code which relates to the performance problem experiencing in the
“C” electrical circuit to the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. The main
aim of EGR valve is to push in a sufficient amount of exhaust gas into the
intake manifold which in turn maintains the head temperature of the cylinder
below 2500 degrees F. If the temperature increases more than 2500- degrees F
then Nitrates of oxygen will be formed. The controlling computer – Powertrain
control module or electronic control module has found an irregular low, high or
non-existent signal voltage. Identify which “C” sensor is in your vehicle with
the help of a manufacturer.
Just
assume that the fuses and relays are in good condition. With the help of your
vehicle’s information source you have to locate the PCM, TCM and power input
signal circuit. Separate the connector from the PCM or TCM. Now place the
ignition switch in on position and examine the exact circuit with the positive
lead of the DVOM.
What causes this problem with
the Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire?
- Faulty
EGR sensor “C”
- Damage
in the wiring harness to the sensor
- Presence
of carbon will prevent the EGR from opening or maybe it is stuck in the closed
position
- Less
vacuum to the EGR solenoid
- Fault
in the EGR solenoid
- Fault
in the position of the EGR solenoid
- A
variance in the pressure feedback to the EGR sensor
Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P044B
- EGR Solenoid - A
faulty EGR solenoid has to be repaired or replaced with a new one.
- EGR Position
Sensor - If there are any leaks or damages in
the position of the EGR sensor, wipe them clean or replace the damaged parts.
- Pressure feedback EGR sensor - If the
wiring harness of this component is shorted or damages, it will give rise to
OBD error P044B. Replace them with the right components from Parts Avatar.
- Wiring Harness - If you
find any corrosion or leaks around the wiring joints wipe them clean and retest
the vehicle again.
- Electrical circuit - Damage
/ broken / faulty electrical circuit can disturb the entire engine system.
Replace them immediately once the fault is found.
Symptoms Of OBD Error Code P044B
Interested
in knowing the symptoms to OBD code P044B? If yes, then you have arrived at the
right place. We at Parts Avatar have listed out few common symptoms associated
with this fuel injector problem.
Common Symptoms
- If
the service engine soon light is brightened, the P044B code will be set.
Moreover, a secondary code relating to the failure of the EGR sensor may be
set. High voltage relates to P044D code and low voltage signal signifies P044C
error.
- If
there is a partial opening in the EGR pintle, your vehicle will stand still and
may not start.
- When
there is a low load or high RPM you will hear a pin from the detonation or nil
symptoms.
How To Correct P044B Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "C" Circuit Range/Performance
Have
a look at some ways with which you can correct the P044B code:
- Replacing the EGR valve

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P044B
In
order to diagnose the Engine error Code P044B, you have to check if there is
any fault in your engine. Some of them are mentioned below:
- There
is one thing which is common with the EGR valves, they re-circulate from one
exhaust to other to the intake manifold. Apart from this, they vary in their
method of regulating the opening of a pintle or sensing its location. A few of
the following procedures are the most common problems which results in majority
of the EGR failures. You have to manually service the wiring joints and sensor
failures with the right diagnostic procedure. Also, not that, wires differ from
one manufacturer to the other. And the computer may not react if you examine
the wrong wire. If you plan to send excessive voltage through the input
terminal, the computer sensor will fry. Likewise, if you disconnect the wrong
wire, the computer will lose its programming and a dealer has to reprogram it.
- This
error mainly deals with the EGR sensor. So, check for corrosion, bents or loose
connection. Clear the corrosion and reseat the connector.
- Remove
both the electrical connector and EGR and check for coking in the intake of the
exhaust. The pintle will move smoothly up and down if the coking is cleaned.
- Check
the vacuum line from the EGR to the solenoid and substitute it if any faults
are found.
- Check
the solenoid electrical connector for erosion or faults.
- If
you have a Ford car, follow the two vacuum pipes from the EGR to the
differential pressure feedback EGR sensor in the tail of the manifold. Check
the two pressure pipes for corrosion.
- Experience orders these plugs with carbon from the exhaust. Use a small pocket screwdriver or corresponding tool and clean the pipes of corrosion and the sensor will begin to function again.
Common Mistakes When
Diagnosing the P044B Code
- Adequate
exhaust leak.
- The
engine fails to accelerate.
- Malfunction
Indicator Lamp (MIL) is too bright.
