P044A OBD Error Code: Problem & Solutions
OBD Code P044A - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "C" Circuit
Is
your EGR, “C” sensor defective? Does your vehicle stand still as the EGR pintle
is stuck? Then you are more likely to experience OBD error code P044A in your
vehicle. OBD44A is a general type of powertrain diagnostic trouble which
includes all models and makes, 1996- newer. However, there are a few steps that
vary depending on the type of vehicle.
Learn More About OBD Error Code P044A
Introducing
a measured amount of exhaust gas into the intake manifold is the main purpose
of the EGR valve. It maintains the head temperature of the cylinder below 2500
degrees-F. When the temperature rises above 2500- degrees F, it will form the
Nitrates of Oxygen (Nox) which is responsible for the formation of atmospheric
pollution and smog. The electronic control module (ECM) or the Powertrain
control module (PCM) which is the controlling computer will detect either a
non- existent, low or high signal voltage. EGR helps in reducing the emissions
which in turn reduces the combustion temperature. If the exact amount of flow
which is requested from the EGR is not detected by the engine control module,
then the error code P044A will be set.
What causes this problem with
the Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire?
- Damaged
or faulty EGR sensor “C”
- Fault
in the wiring joints to the sensor
- Either
the EGR pintle is stuck in the closed position or the presence of carbon is
stopping it from opening
- Insufficient
amount of vacuum to the EGR sensor
- Damaged
EGR solenoid
- The
position of the EGR sensor is damaged
- Faulty
differential
- Pressurized
feedback from the EGR sensor
Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P044A
- Wiring harness - If the
joints of the wires have suffered any damages, then they have to be replaced
immediately.
- EGR Position
Sensor - Check for the position of the EGR
sensor. Are they damaged? Are there any faults? Then get them replaced right
away.
- EGR Solenoid - Are you
looking for the right place to replace your damaged EGR solenoid. Then, Parts
Avatar is the right place as it has the replacement parts for every model.
- Electrical circuit - A fault or damaged
electrical circuit can cause disturbance in the engine system. Replace or
repair them at once.
Symptoms Of OBD Error Code P044A
Well, if you are looking
to know about the common symptoms related to this error code P044A, we are have
worked out a small list to help you discover this error code with your vehicle.
Common Symptoms
- If the light of the
service engine is well let, then the OBD code P044A will be set. Also, you may
also see a second code which relates to the fault in the EGR sensor. Low sensor
voltage is related to the error code P044C and High voltage is related to the
error code P044D.
- The vehicle will stay
idle or do not start if the EGR pintle is stuck and partly open.
- At times, there might be
no symptoms at all or you will hear a sound of ping from the detonation when it
is under a high or low RPM.
How To Correct P044A Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "C" Circuit
Here are some ways with
the help of which you will be able to correct the OBD Code P044A.
- Replacement of the EGR valve
Parts Avatar Canada is here to solve all your issues related to car parts. We have stocked a wide range of best priced Wiring Harness, EGR Position Sensor, EGR Solenoid, Electrical Circuit and a lot more to help you out in fixing your car.
Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P044A
In
order to diagnose the Engine error Code P044A, you must have a few tools and
equipment. Also, you have to check if there is any fault in your engine. Some
of them are mentioned below:
- Recirculation
of exhaust from the exhaust to the intake manifold is one common thing with all
the EGR valves. Apart from the EGR, they vary in their methods for regulating
the opening and sensing the pintle and its position. The common problem which accounts
for the majority of the failure in the EGR system are as described. The wiring
joints or the failure of the sensor requires service manual in order to define
the correct wire identification and procedure for diagnosing. You must also
know that the wires differ from one manufacturer to other and computers do not
recognize them correctly if a wrong wire is found. If you examine the wrong
wire and send in excessive voltage through the input terminal of the computer
sensor, then the computer will be fried. At the same time, if you disconnect
the wrong wire, the computer will lose its programming which causes the failure
of the engine to start again. It can be set alright only when the dealers
reprogram the computer.
- The
“B” circuit malfunction is indicated by the code P044A and so, check the EGR
sensor connector if there are any corrosions, loose connections, bents or any
pushed out terminals. Clean the corrosions and reset the connector.
- Remove
both the electrical sensor and the EGR. Check if there is any coking in the
intake of EGR or the exhaust. In order to make the pintle move up and down
smoothly, you have to clean the coking.
- If
there are any defects in the vacuum line from the EGR to the solenoid, then you
have to replace them.
- Check
for corrosion or defects in the solenoid electrical connectors.
- If
you own a ford, then you have to track the 2 vacuum hoses from EGR to the
differential pressure feedback of EGR sensor which is in the rear side of the
manifold.
- Check if there are any corrosions in the 2 pressure hoses. An experienced mechanic will hose plug it with carbon from the exhaust. Clean the hoses of corrosion with the help of a small pocket screwdriver and the sensor will begin to function again.
Common
Mistakes When Diagnosing the P044A Code
- Failure
of the EGR valve
- Fault
in the powertrain control module
- Problem
with wires
