It is essential to diagnose this fault code. Here are some steps which a mechanic should follow for diagnosing the problem that triggered a P2748 code to be stored:

Step 1

Firstly, check the transmission fluid levels present. Ensure that the fluid present is clean and it is filled adequately. If all is functioning in order, search for the intermediate shaft speed sensor. Most of the times, these sensors can be located directly positioned over the transmission housing.

For gaining access to it, you can get to the sensor from under the hood, which may include the removal of one more component such as the air cleaner and box, miscellaneous brackets, wires etc. Then you should make sure that the sensor and connector corresponding to it are fixed well and are working in order.

Important: all the marks of rubbing on the pickup symbolize false spacing between the reluctor ring and the pickup. A failed sensor hitting the ring can be suspected. If in case, replacement sensor still doesn't clear the ring, the manufacture procedures for adjusting the pickup/reluctor gap should be referred to.

The sensor and its circuit should be tested. For the sensor, a multimeter and a specific manufacturer specification should be used. Measure different electrical values between the sensors pins too. Easy way to do this is by doing it from the same wires but at the corresponding ECM or TCM connector pins. This will help check the condition of the harness and the sensor too.
