Here are some steps which you should follow in order to diagnose this fault code:

General Step

While performing the visual inspection, it is essential to check the transmission fluid level. Ensure that the fluid levels are correct (adequately filled) and the fluid is clean. If all this is as per the requirements, locate the intermediate shaft speed sensor. These sensors can mostly be found located on the transmission housing. Also, you can also work on the sensor from under the hood, which may require you to remove more than one parts such as the air cleaner and box, miscellaneous brackets, wires etc in order. Ensure that the corresponding connector and the sensor are functioning in order and connected correctly.

Firstly, you need to remove and clean the speed sensor (this can be located easily). It is inexpensive and if in case you end up finding a contaminated sensor’ pickup, cleaning it would clear away all the problems. A brake cleaner along with a rag should be used to make sure the sensor pickup is clean. It is important to do so, as the dirt or shavings can lead to wrong sensor readings.

Important: all the signs of rubbing are indicative of incorrect spacing between the reluctor ring and the pickup. A failed sensor hitting the ring should be suspected. Consult the manufacturer’ provision for adjusting the pickup/reluctor gap, if the replacement sensor doesn’t clear the ring.

The sensor and its circuit should be tested. Use a multimeter and specific manufacturer specifications to test the sensor and calculate different electrical values between the sensors pins also. The smarter approach to do this includes, doing tests from the same wires but at corresponding ECM or TCM connector pins. This helps greatly verifying the probity of the harness along with the sensor.
