OBD Code P0935 - Hydraulic Pressure Sensor Circuit High

<<See All OBD Codes

There may be times when your vehicle will flash OBD codes, and the check engine light may go on. The way to handle these error codes, is to check symptoms, and practice the correct diagnosis. The P0935 by the TCM when it notices abnormal signals from the Hydraulic Pressure Sensor.

Learn More About OBD Error Code P0935

The hydraulic pressure of your vehicle is used by the clutch to engage and disengage to shift the different gears needed while driving. This pressure is stored in the Accumulator, the Accumulator Pressure Sensor sends information to the Transmission Control Module about how much pressure is present in the system. If the signal sent back to the TCM is not acceptable then P0935 code is stored.

Easy Diagnosis of Engine Error OBD Code P0935

Follow the diagnosis steps below to troubleshoot the P0935 code:

  • This code refers to excessive voltage in the line pressure sensor circuit, and hence the attention should be focussed on the circuit between the Engine Control Module and the sensor and the sensor itself. The P0935 code is about having “circuit high” which means the voltage detected by the sensor is higher than what’s possible. In case of a three-wire 5V reference sensor, the typical values should be in the range of 0.5V TO 4.5V. If this is the case then the ECM is detecting 5V or more, which is a sign that the voltage is coming from some other place or there’s probably a short-circuit in the sensor.
  • Get hold of a DMM and EWD for your vehicle and start the diagnosis by performing general checks of the wiring harnesses for damages. This could be short circuits, burned wires, etc. Check if there is any water entry at the the connectors or bent pins. Connectors should be properly seated, all the issues you may find will have to be repaired or replaced as needed. Now move on to sensor checks, look for proper voltage and ground and repair as needed if they’re not matching the specifications of your vehicle. Put the key in On and use the DMM to measure LPS supply voltage at 5V and 0V to the ground, there should be some variable voltage on the signal line present. If you find a 5V reference and 5V ground then you have an open circuit to the ground, now trace the ground circuit and repair it. If the measurements you’re finding are 5V reference and 0V ground, with over 4.5V signal, you most likely have a internal LPS short, but don’t conclude this unless all the circuit checks are done.
  • Now disconnect the LPS, you should be able to measure a 5v reference and 0V signal and ground. If however you find over 5V reference/0V signal or ground, then trace the circuit to find where the short to power is and repair it accordingly.
  • It’s now time for the last step of circuit checks, turn the key off and disconnect the ECM and LPS. Check the circuits end-to-end, you’re supposed to measure 0Ω end to end and over 10 kΩ to each other and to ground. If that’s not what you find, then trace and repair the issue.
