P0714 - OBD Trouble Code
OBD Code P0714 - Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A Circuit Intermittent
How does the P0714 error occur and what causes the connection to
be intermittent? If the transmission is not within the range, the error code
will appear in your vehicle. The light will illuminate as the error code is
stored.
Learn More About OBD Error Code P0714
To resolve the shift points, line pressure and TCC control, the
TFT sensor will produce a signal for the PCM. The sensor is present in the
transmission oil pan. The transmission fluid temperature sensor obtains a
reference voltage from the PCM. It fluctuates its internal resistance in
relation to TFT to send a return voltage signal to the PCM. TFT sensors are
negative temperature coefficient thermistor which means the sensor’s internal
resistance is inversely proportional to oil temperature. If the temperature is
not as preferred or within the range, P0714 error code will appear and the
check engine light will be lit.
What causes
this problem with the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A Circuit
Intermittent?
- Poor TFT sensor.
- Transmission problem.
- Wiring problems.
- Flawed PCM.

How To Correct P0714 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A Circuit Intermittent
Want to correct the
Trouble Code P0714? Read these points mentioned below:
- Diagnose with a scan tool
to make sure the code is appropriate.
- Check for leaks and low-level
fluids.
- Check for wires and
connections and repair as needed.
- Change the transmission if
there are problems.
If everything is fine,
there may be fault with the PCM.

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P0714
Here are some steps which
you should follow in order to diagnose this fault code:
- You have to visually
inspect the transmission fluid temperature sensor and its related wires. See if
there are any damages or loose connections and repair them as needed.
- Check for the right TBS
for this issue, else you have to do a step by step diagnosis. In order to
carefully diagnose you have to see the diagnostic flow chart specified by the
manufacturer.
- Do a preliminary test.
Using a scan tool, monitor few parameters. Detach the TFT sensor. Now you have
to connect jumper wires across them. If high temperature is shown by the scan
tool, the connections are good and as they can recognize the input.
- The main problem must be
with the sensor and so tests the sensor. Measure the resistance between the
terminals with DVOM sets to voltmeter. Start the engine and as it warms, the
value should decrease. If the temperature increases whereas the TFT resistance
does not decrease, then component has to be changed.
- Check for reference signal
and if it’s not presents attach it to the meter on the PCM. There will be an
opening if the meter reads out of limits between the PCM and the sensor and it
needs immediate repair.
- If there is a numeric
value in the meter, the condition is fine. Check for 5 volts from the PCM at reference voltage terminal, if not so,
the PCM is defective. Check for proper ground and connect it to the meter between
transmission fluid temperature sensor and the ground terminal on the PCM.
- You will find an opening
in the circuit if the meter reads out of limit. Finally check for proper ground
by attaching the PCM ground terminal to the chassis ground. If it again reads out
of limit, then there will be an opening in the circuit and it needs to be
fixed.
- If everything is fine and
still error keeps showing up, there will be a problem with the transmission.
This is especially true as the fluid temperature codes are set with other
transmission codes.
Common mistakes when diagnosing the P0714 code
Based on the condition of
transmission fluid, the P0714 error is stored based on former issue. It is
better to clear error codes, before further troubleshooting to ensure the code
does not return.
