Obd code P018D - Fuel Pressure Sensor B Circuit High

<<See All OBD Codes

The OBD P018D fault code can be defined as a fuel pressure sensor ‘B” circuit high. Are there some faults in your car fuel pump? Did your car mechanic just tell you that there is a bad electrical connection in the fuel pressure sensor 'B' circuit? Then there are some chances that OBD P018D trouble code would soon appear.

Learn More About OBD Error Code P018D

The pressure in the fuel rail would vary constantly as the overall demand for the fuel would keep on changing while you are driving normally and then the powertrain control module would expect to see a signal voltage from the pressure sensor that would accurately reflect these changes in pressure so that it can maintain an appropriate fuel delivery strategy at all times. Now when the fuel pressure sensor has registered a signal voltage that would not agree with the signal voltage that the powertrain control module actually expects to see under the specified set of operating conditions or some parameters like the speed of the engine, throttle position and intake air temperature, at that point the powertrain control module would set P018D fault code and this would also result in the illumination of the warning light.

What causes this problem with the Fuel Pressure Sensor 'B' Circuit High?

  • There can be some faults in the fuel pressure sensor 'B'
  • The harness of the fuel pressure sensor 'B' can be opened or shorted
  • There can be bad electrical connection in the fuel pressure sensor 'B' circuit

Symptoms Of OBD Error Code P018D

Our main motive is to achieve customer satisfaction and that’s why we will help you to diagnose P018D code by mentioning some major symptoms below:

Common Symptoms

  • There can be some conditions where hard starting may be present
  • It all depends upon the application as a -start condition may be present. There are some cases where a fuel pump could be deactivated because of invalid signal from the fuel pressure sensor
  • The car engine may start, but shut off again almost immediately if an invalid signal from the fuel pressure sensor deactivates the fuel pump
  • The issue of rough idling, or hesitation and/or stumbling upon acceleration may be present on some applications
  • There can be some cases where the engine might not idle at all
  • Frequent, or unpredictable stalling might be present on some applications
  • The overall fuel consumption may start increasing on some applications
  • Sporadic oxygen sensor related codes could be set because of P018D code on some applications, especially when the PCM cannot execute fuel trim adjustments when the fuel pressure sensor feeds it invalid signals.

How To Correct P018D Fuel Pressure Sensor "B" Circuit High

  • If you want to correct this fault code, then you should replace the fuel pump

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P018D

  • If your car’s fuel pressure sensor is appearing functional as it is all based on its internal resistance, even then you should not assume that will actually work properly throughout its operating range
  • There is one way with which you can be sure that the sensor works as intended, is by connecting the scanner to the vehicle and then you must set it so that it can monitor the live data from the pressure sensor
  • After that you should start the car engine, but bear in mind that if the engine is running at a steady RPM, the signal voltage generated by the sensor should remain fairly constant
  • A momentary drop would be caused by raising the speed of the engine sharply in the fuel rail, and this change caused in the pressure should be reflected immediately in the display of the scanner
  • Similarly decreasing of the engine speed would raise the fuel pressure and its change would also be reflected on the scanner. The change would be reflected in the form of a changing signal voltage in both the cases
  • Now if the change turns out to be slow, erratic or if you find out that there is no change in the signal voltage, then the signal wire to the powertrain control module must be defective
  • If this is suspected, then you must prepare to perform resistance, continuity as well as ground circuit checks on all the wiring. Just remember to disconnect the wiring from the powertrain control module so that no damage is caused to the controller

Common Mistakes When Diagnosing the P018D Code

  • There can be some defects in the powertrain control module
  • The pressure sensor can fail
  • Issues with the wiring
