Front Shocks & Struts
About Front Shocks & Struts
The suspension is used to absorb road shocks and a strong suspension supports the weight of the vehicle. The suspension also provides a smooth ride and allows rapid cornering without extreme body roll. It also keeps tyre in firm contact with the road. It not only prevents excess body squad, but it also allows front wheels to turn side to side for steering, it prevents excessive body drive. The suspension also works with the steering system to keep the wheels in correct alignment. Front Shock absorber: Shock absorbers are actually dampers, meaning that they reduce or make something less intense. Without the shocks, the vehicle would continue to bounce for a long time after every bump and change in body movement. The most common type of shock is a hydraulic shock absorber. This kind of shock directly acts on motion. They work in both compression and extension modes. The hydraulic fluid is used to perform the work. Shock absorbers are typically mounted near the springs, with the lower end of the shock-mounted on a lower control arm or axle. The top of the shock is mounted to the vehicle body. Strut: Struts are considerably different than a shock absorber. Struts are a structural part of the suspension system and are mounted to the chassis of the vehicle on the top, and they come down. MacPherson strut is a very popular and efficient form of suspension. It is known as independent suspension. It has one control arm and a strut assembly. Coil spring and shock absorber will normally form a part of a strut assembly. This type of suspension strut is also used for the rear suspension. The top of the strut is bolted to a reinforced section of the frame structure. The lower end of the strut is attached to a steering knuckle. The control arms are mounted on a cradle section of the frame. An anti-roll bar links the two control arms together to reduce body roll. This type of suspension is light in weight and the camber angle does not change due to movement of wheels. It maximizes an engine compartment area. It is cheap to maintain and ride is comfortable. This type of suspension has few parts like ball joints, springs, shock absorber or dampers, control arm bush. This system reduces vibration.
What is the purpose?
The only main function of suspension is to reduce the sudden impact load when a vehicle is into a bump so that the impact is stored in the springs of a suspension and thereby releasing it to the coil of springs
