I was expecting the silver ones from Japan, but received black ones from Malaysia. They look the same, and the oval stem measures about 5mm by 7.4mm. I'm on the hunt for a double D socket that fits properly. Definitely, don't want to use vice grips or an impact wrench and risk damaging the piston and stem. I'm sticking with the Honda OEM mounts, as they seem to have better longevity than aftermarket options. I'm using a Lisle compressor with U-bolts, which is made in the USA and seems to be the right tool for the job on my first-generation CRV.

I've been a fan of KYB for a wihle and they never disappoint. They're a bit pricier, but you get what you pay for. I chose these for my CRV since I'm planning to drive it for years to come.

Wanted the silver ones, got black

Was expecting the fancy silver ones from Japan as shown, but got black ones from Malaysia instead. They seem identical, though. Finding a 5mm by 7.5mm double D socket that fits is a challenge. Avoid using vise grips or you'll wreck the piston and stem, and definitely no impact tools or you'll wreck the seals too. I ended up reusing the OEM Honda mounts which are unbeatable—they're from Japan, don't crack, and outlast everything. For compressing springs, the Lisle compressor with U-bolts from the USA is top-notch, especially for Japanese import struts. The horseshoe design compressor would be the only step up, but it's over 140 CAD and weighs about 16 kg.
