      Fuel pump good, but missing the regulator

      My last Holley fuel pump lasted five years and came with a regulator; this one did not. Double-check the model numbers before ordering so you know exactly what's included. It was a good price at around $112 CAD, and shipping was fast, but I thought I'd be getting more for my money.

          The pump functions great, until it doesn't. They don't seem to have a long lifespan. Running them without a by-pass setup into the carb or regulator makes them overheat and cut out. They do usually come back on after cooling down, but that's cold comfort when you're stranded roadside. This latest one lasted 18 months. I've replaced 2 red pumps and 1 blue pump over the last few years on two different cars.

                  The downsides: it's heavy, bulky, and noisy. Had less than 800 kilometers on this Holley blue when it failed. I'm giving it another chance by buying a second one. If this one lets me down too, I'm done with Holley fuel pumps.

                      This pump was a solid replacement for a no-name brand that started leaking. It's a bit noisier but leak-free and delivers a steady 6.5 psi to the carb. So far, so good.

                          Replaced an identical pump that only lasted a year with less than 160 kilometers on it. The new pump initially locked up, but then it worked after a second try. Fingers crossed it was just a fluke.

                                  Given my past issues with fuel pumps, I'll wait a couple of weeks before giving my full opinion on this one. It's performing better than expected—quieter, in fact. I don't hear it while driving, only at idle.
