About Universal Muffler
The Muffler is a device that helps reduce or deadens the sound produced by engine exhaust gases. Mufflers are part of the exhaust system and are mounted towards the end of the exhaust pipe before the tailpipe. The muffler consists of a series of passages or chambers that alter and dampen the sounds as the gasses flow through the muffler assembly. Universal mufflers are components that can be mounted on any vehicle regardless of dimensions making them ‘universal’ in nature.
How Universal Muffler Works?
The muffler is made of steel and coated with aluminium to resist corrosion, the main purpose of the muffler is to dissipate the sound created by the engine ( inside the combustion chamber), the gases which are released are powerful with abrupt sound waves, these sound waves combined with vibration's, changes according to the pulses of high and low pressure, when the exhaust valve in the combustion chamber opens, a high pressured gas enters into the exhaust system, pressure waves will collide, when the high-pressure gas collides with the low-pressure gas which forms a molecule or pressure molecule, these molecules travel through the exhaust system with loud noises, so to tackle this loud noise a muffler is installed to reduce this loud noise. These pressure waves act exact opposite of sound waves, meaning when it collide they cancel out creating no sound, and this is called destructive interference. A muffler is very simple and yet very effective, there are perforated tubes inside the muffler, the sound waves travel through these tubes and enter the resonator chamber reflecting off the chamber wall, based on the length of the resonator chamber wall which cuts the sound waves. In every aspect the muffler is designed to cut off the sound, the perforated tubes inside the muffler allow you to do so.
Where is Universal Muffler Located?
Mufflers are located mainly at the rear end at the underside of the vehicle.
