OBD Code P2A04 - O2 Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2 Sensor 2

 <<See All OBD Codes

Very low engine performance is usually known as O2 sensor circuit range/performance bank 2 sensors 2. Evaluating the oxygen content in the exhaust gases once they leave the combustion process of the engine is the main work of the oxygen sensor. This information might be dangerous to the PCM’s ability to conserve the efficient fuel economy. The P2A04 error will be set in the vehicle if the PCM finds the failure of the sensor or the information received from the sensor

Learn More About OBD Error Code P2A04

The oxygen level in the exhaust gas on each bank will be carefully looked after by the heated oxygen sensor. For catalyst reaction to be optimum, the air-fuel mixture has to be protected near the stoichiometric ratio. The HO2S output voltage will vary suddenly in the vicinity of the stoichiometric ratio. The fuel injection time is adjusted by the ECM so that the air-fuel ratio is nearly stoichiometric. The HO2S will initiate a voltage between 0.1 and 0.9 in response to the exhaust gas oxygen. If the oxygen in the exhaust gas goes high, the air-fuel ratio will go lean which is interpreted by the ECM when the voltage goes below 0.45V. A decrease in oxygen in the exhaust gas will cause the air-fuel ratio to be rich which gets interpreted by the ECM when the HO2S voltage goes high above 0.45 V.

What causes this problem with the O2 Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2 Sensor 2?

  • Broken rear heated oxygen sensor bank 2.
  • The harness of the rear heated oxygen sensor bank 2 might be shorted or it might have an opening.
  • The electrical connection of the rear heated oxygen sensor bank 2 might be bad.
  • Fuel pressure is wrong.
  • Defective fuel injectors.
  • Intake air leak might be broken.
  • Exhaust gas outflows.

Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P2A04

  1. Oxygen SensorVery poor idle or erratic jerking are the common symptoms for a damaged oxygen sensor. Replace the faulty oxygen sensor by getting a new one from PartsAvatar.
  2. Engine Control Module - Does your car jump start on reverse polarity? It is an indication of damaged ECM. Repair / replace it soon to avoid P2A04 error.
  3. Powertrain Control Module - If you find the check engine light on the display dashboard, then the PCM is faulty. Replace it as soon as possible to avoid the P2A04 error.
  4. Fuel Injector - Does your engine surge very often? Then it is an indication that the fuel injector is faulty and it must be replaced quickly.
  5. Exhaust System - An increased engine noise is an indication that the exhaust system has to be repaired or replaced. Avoid the P2A04 error by replacing the faulty exhaust system.
  6. Air Fuel Ratio Sensor - The air-fuel ratio sensor might turn out to be defective if the performance of the engine is very low. Fix it as soon as possible.
  7. Battery - Swollen battery is an indication that the battery is defective. Fix it as soon as possible to avoid the P2A04 error.

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P2A04

It is essential to diagnose this fault code. Here are some steps which a mechanic should follow for diagnosing the problem that triggered a P2A04 code to be stored:

  • Professional technicians will start checking the system wire harness and connectors.
  • Also, they will pay close attention to the harness that is placed near the hot exhaust pipes and manifold and also the harness near the sharp edges like exhaust shields.
  • Attach a scanner to the vehicle if every component is in proper working conditions and then retrieve both the stored codes and freeze frame data.
  • This is highly helpful to find if there are any irregular conditions which made this error code to get stored in the vehicle.
  • Clear all codes and retest the vehicle to see if any error has occurred.
  • If you find the error again, start the vehicle and make it come to the normal operating temperature.
  • Use the scanner data stream and check the O2 sensor input data.
  • The data stream display must be narrowed down to show only related data so that you can get a quick response.
  • If the engine runs effectively, the data of the downstream oxygen sensor will deviate slowly and minimally.
  • If the signal lies outside the estimated parameters, the error will be stored.
  • To check the live data from the O2 sensor, attach the DVOM test leads to the sensor ground and signal wires.
  • DVOM can also be used to verify the resistance, voltage and ground signal of the oxygen sensor.
  • Disconnect every of the system circuits and its linked controllers before checking the resistance.
  • Replacement of low-grade catalytic converters must be eluded as they cause frequent failures.

Common Mistakes When Diagnosing the P2A04 Code

  • PCM might be malfunctioning.
  • An issue might arise due to faulty wires.
  • Failure of the oxygen sensor.
  • Leakage from the exhaust
