P2543 OBD Error Code: Problem & Solutions
OBD Code P2543 - Low Pressure Fuel System Sensor Circuit Intermittent
The trouble code P2543 can be defined as Low
Pressure Fuel System Sensor Circuit Intermittent. The fuel system sensor
circuit is being monitored by the engine control module. This trouble code
would be set by the ECM when the fuel system sensor circuit signal would not be
as per the specifications set by the manufacturer. The engine control module,
powertrain control module or the transmission control module monitors this
circuit depending upon the particular automobile.
Learn More About OBD Error Code P2543
It
is always good to learn more! That is the reason why we are here to help you
out in gaining more knowledge about the P2543 error code. The fuel pressure
sensor (FPS) is generally found directly mounted into the fuel rail, close to
the injectors and the intake manifold. The FPS would then convert the system
fuel pressure into an electrical signal for the powertrain control module
(PCM).
What
causes this problem with the Low Pressure Fuel System Sensor Circuit
Intermittent?
- Open
in the signal circuit to the FP sensor
- Possibility
of a short to voltage in the signal circuit to the FP sensor
- There
might be a short to ground in the signal circuit to the FP sensor
- Some
issues related to an open in power or ground at FP sensor
- Quirks
in the FP Sensor
- The
PCM might be damaged
Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix Code P2543
- Fuel Sender Connector - The fuel sender connector is responsible for optimising the fuel flow into the engine and if found faulty, will cause problems in fuel delivery. Thus, it needs to be replaced immediately.
- Engine Control Module - If there is any corrosion or breaks in the internal wiring of the harness, then it can cause a short in the ECM or can also cause corrosion in the ECM through the wiring harness. You can always rely on us as we have best auto parts for our customers.
- Powertrain Control Module - The onboard computer, or powertrain control module is the brain of the engine control system. Now if the brain is not working properly, then neither is the car engine. Get it replaced before the situation gets worse.
- Fuel Pressure Regulator - Without the fuel pressure regulator, the fuel rail will not be able to build up enough pressure to support the injectors with the sufficient amount of fuel, the fuel will instead flow straight through and not reach the injectors. Thus, replace faulty pressure regulator now!
- Electronic Control Unit - Is your car jumpstarting on reverse polarity? Or are you facing some intermittent starting issues? If yes, then it indicates that your electronic control unit is bad. So it is very important to replace the defective electronic control unit with us at equitable prices.
- Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor - Also known as the fuel rail sensor, the fuel tank pressure sensor is an integral part of the evaporative emissions control systems or rather EVAP. The EVAP captures unburned fuel vapors from the fuel tank and reintroduces them into the fuel system. It helps in many ways, most importantly by saving fuel, minimizing environmental pollution, and preventing damage to the engine. The pressure sensor, which is normally positioned inside or on top of the tank, works to detect the pressure in the fuel system, with the end goal of identifying leaks and defective gas caps.
- Fuel Injector - The purpose of the fuel injection system is to deliver fuel into the engine cylinders, while precisely controlling the injection timing, fuel atomization, and other parameters. Thus, if the injector is faulty, replace it now!

How To Correct Low Pressure Fuel System Sensor Circuit Intermittent Issue
If you wish to correct this fault code, then you have to follow certain steps. Correcting a problem needs your careful attention. Here are some ways with the help of which you will be able to correct the OBD Code P2543:
- The PCM/ECM should be restored to working order
- You must fix the defective fuel pump connector
- Make sure to mend the faulty fuel filter
- It is essential to restore the flawed ECU
- Repair or replace the quirky fuel pump relay
- Carefully adjust the faults in the fuel pressure gauge
- Recondition the non-functioning FP sensor
- It is necessary to perform proper service of the unsound fuel pump

However, if you face any issue then we have stocked a wide range of best priced pcm, ecm, fuel pump, oil filter, fuel injector, fuel filter, fuel pressure gauge, fuel pump relay, fuel pump connector, automatic transmission module, pcm module, ecm module and more to help you out in fixing your car.
Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P2543
Here are some steps which you should follow in order to diagnose this fault code:
As a first step in any trouble shoot process, you must search the TSB for your specific vehicle by year, model and power plant. This is very essential as it can save a lot of time by directing in the right path. Then the next step would be to locate the FPS sensor on your specific vehicle. This sensor is generally found directly screwed / mounted into the fuel rail, close to the injectors and the intake manifold. Now once it has been located, then the connector and wiring should be visually inspected. Search for scraping, rubbing, bare wires, burn spots or melted plastic. The connector should be pulled apart and carefully examine the terminals (the metal parts) which are inside the connector. See if they look burned or have a green tint indicating corrosion. Use electrical contact cleaner and a plastic bristle brush if cleaning of the terminals is required. It should then be allowed to dry and apply electrical grease where the terminals contact. Now if you have a scan tool, then the diagnostic trouble codes from memory should be cleared and then see if the P2543 code returns. If it is not returning, then it would mean that there are some issues in the connections. If the P2543 code returns, then insure that you have good fuel pressure by checking with a mechanical gauge. Then check it with the specifications set by the manufacturer for your vehicle. If the fuel pressure and volume do not pass, then restore the fuel pump and all the codes should be cleared and retested. If the P2543 is now gone, then the issue was mechanical. If the P2543 code does return, we will need to examine the FPS sensor as well as it related circuits. With the Key Off, then the electrical connector at the FP sensor should be disconnected. Then connect a Digital Voltmeter black lead to the ground terminal at the FP sensor wiring harness connector. Then the next step is to Turn Key On Engine Off. Inspect the manufacturer’s specifications; voltmeter should read either 12 volts or 5 volts. If not, then you should repair open in wiring on the power or ground wire, or restore the PCM. If the prior test passed, then there would be a need to check the signal wire. With the connector still disconnected, move the red lead of the voltmeter from the power wire terminal to the signal wire terminal. The voltmeter should now read 5 volts. If not, repair the open on the signal wire, or the powertrain control module should be replaced. If all prior tests have passed and you continue to get a P2543, this would most likely indicate a failure in the FPS sensor, although a failed PCM could not be ruled out until the FPS sensor had been replaced. If unsure, then you should seek assistance from a trained automotive diagnostician. PCMs should be programmed, or calibrated to the automobile in order to be installed in the right manner.
Common Mistakes When Diagnosing The P2543 Code
- Non performance of the powertrain control module
- Failure in the car wiring
- The fuel pressure sensor might not function properly
