The hybrid system is monitored and controlled by the powertrain computer (PCM) along with its coolant pump, the Motor Electronics Coolant Pump. The Coolant Pump B works under the directions of the Powertrain Control Module and is usually found mounted in the front of the car engine. It is essential to diagnose this fault code. Here are some steps which a mechanic should follow for diagnosing the problem that triggered a P0B39 code to be stored:

A good starting point is always to check for technical service bulletins (TSB) for your particular vehicle. Your issue may be a known issue with a known fix put out by the manufacturer and can save you time and money during diagnosis.

Next, locate the Coolant Pump B (CP-B) on your particular vehicle. This pump is usually found mounted to the front of the engine, on top of the engine, inside the wheel wells or against the bulkhead.
