OBD Code P0A43 - Drive Motor "A" Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent

<<See All OBD Codes

Does your vehicle’s engine light keeps flashing? Are there any issues in the inverter or converter assembly? Then there is a high probability that the P0A43 error code is stored in your vehicle. Drive motor ‘A’ position sensor circuit intermittent generally refers to the high voltage system that does not function properly. With the help of sensor, the position of the internal components of the hybrid motor is found by the hybrid control module. The P0A43 error will be set in the vehicle by the ECM module if the position sensor is faulty.

Learn More About OBD Error Code P0A43

A resolver is nothing but a sensor which finds the position of the magnetic poles of the rotor of a motor generator. It is impossible to find the exact position of the poles with respect to MG1 and MG2. There is an excitation coil and 2 detection coils(S, C) in the stator of every resolver. As the rotor keeps turning, the gap between stator and rotor will change due to the oval shape of the rotor. An irregular current combined with fixed frequency will flow through detection coils (S, C), excitation coils- the output irregular current with respect to sensor rotor position. Based on the phases of detection coils S and C, the exact position of the rotor and height of the waveform is found by the inverter along with the converter assembly. The variation in the change in position with fixed length of time is calculated by the CPU so that the resolver can be used as speed sensor. The signal output is looked after by the MG ECU from the motor resolver and identifies the faults.

What causes this problem with the Drive Motor "A" Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent?

  • Damaged inverter along with converter assembly.
  • Defective hybrid vehicle generator assembly.
  • Broken hybrid vehicle motor assembly.
  • Either the engine wiring harness or the connectors might cause trouble.

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P0A43

It is essential to diagnose this fault code. Here are some steps which a mechanic should follow for diagnosing the problem that triggered a P0A43 code to be stored:

  • This is a general type of error code, where the mechanic will use a scanner to check for the stored error codes.
  • To the diagnostic port, the mechanic will attach the scanner so that every of the stored codes and freeze frame data are retrieved.
  • As a first step, the mechanic will start inspecting the drive coils and position sensor as they can give rise to performance issues.
  • After this, the mechanic will start inspecting the components like motor generator, converter assembly, and motor assembly and so on for some possible damages or defects. If they are defective the mechanic will replace them as needed.
  • As a very rare case, the mechanic may come across the faulty connectors which has to be replaced.
  • After every diagnostic process is carefully done, make sure that you reset the code and test drive the vehicle. This has to be done to see if the error codes still appear.
  • This step will eventually help the mechanic or the technician to know if the code is still stored and help him to locate the area as to where the fault occurred.

Common Mistakes When Diagnosing the P0A43 Code

The common mistakes that appear when diagnosing the P0A43 error is that the high voltage control module and the high voltage motor might be defective. The mechanic may also come across the wires which are problematic.
