What does P0A40 error code refer to? What are its symptoms and diagnostic procedures? This is a general type of error code where the high voltage system will not function properly is known as drive motor ‘A’ position sensor circuit range/ performance. The location of the hybrid motor’s internal component is identified by the hybrid control module with the help of sensors. If there is any fault in position sensor, then the engine control module will set the error code P0A40 in the system.

The motor control module monitors the drive motor position sensor, angular position, speed and direction depending on the resolver-type position sensors signal. A drive coil, 2 driven coils and a metallic rotor of irregular shape is present in the position sensor. The metallic rotor is fixed to the shaft of the drive motor generator. The motor control module will give a 7-volt ac when the vehicle is on which excites 10 MHz signal to drive coil. A magnetic field is formed around the 2 driven coils and the irregular shaped rotor by the drive coil excitation signal. The 2 driven coil circuit is checked by the motor control module for return signal. The metallic rotors position will make the magnetically induced return signals of the driven coils to change in shape as well as in size. The correct position, speed and direction of the motor control module can be found by comparing the 2 driven coils. Position sensor cannot be serviced and it belongs to drive motor.
