Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P0584
Here are three diagnostic steps
which you can follow to diagnose this fault code:
Step
1 - Open the hood of your car and
examine the cruise control system. Trace back the vacuum control line to note
where it goes, and what it controls. If you observe that it’s going directly to
the vacuum solenoid, thoroughly inspect the vacuum lines, cruise control servo,
solenoids for any physical damage. Any visible and obvious issues can then be
repaired before diagnosing. Note: While inspecting the cruise control servo,
ensure you verify the cable is not seized. Monitored electrical values can totally
be erratic if the cable is seized.
Step
2 - If the cruise control vacuum
solenoid is present, verify the electrical values it’s displaying. This will
help you eliminate the presence of any internal fault. Refer the manual
provided by your vehicle manufacturer to attain precise values and procedures.
You can see them mounted to the fender wells, firewall, intake manifolds etc.
just ensure you are working with the right solenoid before doing anything to
it. Now, if the recorded values aren’t in congruence with the manufacturers
desired values, you will have to replace the solenoid completely. Next, clear
the engine light and test drive your system.
Step
3 - If at any point a vacuum gauge was
used, you will have to monitor the vacuum within the system. For this, you will
have to ensure you acquire the vacuum from particular ports off the intake
systems only. Typically, these will be present on the intake manifold itself,
however, for safety it’s good to check the manual specifics. The reason for
this is, that its values depend heavily on the specifics of your automobile
engine. Normally, at operating temperature and with correct ignition timing the
reading of vacuum should be 50-55 kPa approximately.
Common
Mistakes When Diagnosing the P0584 Code
- Failure of the Cruise control servo
- A failed Powertrain Control Module
(PCM)
