P0295 OBD Error Code: Problem & Solutions

OBD Code P0295 - Cylinder 12 Injector Circuit High

<<See All OBD Codes

The Fuel Injectors in the Fuel Injection System are turned on and off by the “drivers” which are the special transistors in the Engine Control Module (PCM).

If the Fuel Injector cannot be controlled by the PCM, it will generate the error code P0295.

Learn More About OBD Error Code P0295

The OBD error code P0295 is triggered if a high voltage in the Fuel Injector 12 Circuit is detected by the Engine Control Module (ECM), while in normal working conditions, the ECM turns the Fuel Injectors on and off. The OBD code P0295 indicates that the engine cylinder 12 is not operating properly due to issues with the circuit, that is, an above average current drawing from the fuel injector. The condition might be cropping up due to issues with one or more of the several parts. Below is the list of causes that might be generating the error code P0295.

The conditions in which the error code is generated:

  • There’s a faulty electrical connection
  • The cylinder 6 injector has either failed or is failing
  • There could be some fault with the ECM
  • There could be problem with electrical connections

Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P0295

These parts must be looked into and the damaged parts should be repaired or, if beyond repair, it should be replaced.

  1. Fuel Injector The ECM sends a signal to the fuel injector to spray the pressurised fuel into the engine. The fuel delivered will depend on the duration of time the fuel injector is open. If there is an issue with the Fuel Injector itself, the amount of fuel delivered might vary from the optimum or prescribed values which might create problems with the engine or emission system. Thus, it is necessary the fuel injector is repaired or replaced, as required, urgently.
  2. Fuel Injection System - For smooth working, an engine needs to be supplied with the right amount of fuel/air mixture. Due to an issue with the Fuel Injection system, the amount of fuel delivered to the engine might be exceeding or be below the optimum limits or the balance of quantities between the fuel and air might not be in concurrence with the limits required for an efficient emission.
  3. Connector - The Fuel Injection Connectors are used for making connections between the incoming current to the Fuel Injector and the ECM. The problems with Fuel Injector Connectors usually go undiagnosed and lead to repairs of costlier parts without the actual problem getting solved. The connectors can be replaced at very cheap prices and thus if the error code is being generated, it might be wise to have a look at the connectors early on so that the problem can be diagnosed and you don’t have to waste thousands of dollars repairing/replacing parts that actually are not the problem at all.
  4. Wiring - The Fuel Injection Wiring/Harness includes the wiring of the fuel injector. If the wiring is faulty, it might be leading to short circuiting or variations in the amount of current flowing to the injection system. Fixing the wiring is a tedious job since it requires looking very minutely to any rust or cracks in the wiring or harness.
  5. Powertrain Control Module - PCM is a combined control unit that consists of Engine control unit (ECU) and Transmission control unit (TCU). The PCM is one of the most important components in the control system of a vehicle. It controls over a hundred factors in a vehicle. The PCM is commonly referred to as ‘The Brain’ of the engine control system. Thus, being pivotal in the operations of a vehicle, it is extremely necessary that even the slightest fault in the PCM must be immediately rectified.
  6. Fuel Injection Control Module - Fuel Injection control module is a pattern failure that leads to the vehicle not starting or being difficult to start. When failure occurs, the engine might operate roughly when it’s cold. Basically, the fuel injection control module sends an electrical impulse to the fuel injector so as to deliver the required quantity of fuel to the engine cylinder at the moment it’s required. Since FICM is a very essential part for the engine’s performance and fuel economy, it is necessary to keep it in good working condition and thus, in case of any issues, it must be repaired or replaced immediately.

Symptoms Of OBD Error Code P0295

Due to issues with the circuits, an above average amount of current might be drawn from the fuel injector which might lead to malfunctioning of the engine cylinder 12. When this situation occurs, the vehicle might start showing some symptoms. These common symptoms have been listed below:

Common Symptoms

  • Engine might show decreased performance
  • Fuel consumption might seem to have increased

How To Correct P0295 Cylinder 12 Injector Circuit High

To correct the issues occurring with the Cylinder 12 Injector Circuit, you can follow the below steps:

  • You can try to fix the wiring harness or replace the same in case damage is irreparable
  • You can fix the connection issues, if any
  • You can replace the fuel injector cylinder 6
  • You can also replace the ECM

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P0295

To diagnose the OBD code P0295, the mechanic might follow the below steps. You may also carry out the testing yourself following the same procedure:

  • You should first use a scanning tool to check for all the codes that are currently showing in the vehicle.
  • Next, check for the freeze frame data for a list of all the detected codes.
  • You should then clear these codes and give the vehicle a test drive under similar conditions as the ones that triggered the P0295 code.
  • Then you should inspect all the components of the cylinder 6 injector circuit.
  • Then check for the fuel injector voltage.
  • The scan tool should be used to examine the voltage and resistance of injector 6 and compare it to other injectors.
  • A noid light should then be installed between the wiring harness and fuel injector cylinder 6 which assesses the pulse width.
  • Finally, test the ECM.

Common Mistakes When Diagnosing the P0295 Code

Diagnosis of error code P0295 might give inaccurate results if the following mistakes have occurred:

  • There might be a failure of Fuel Injection Control Module
  • There might be a Fuel Injector failure
  • The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) might have failed
  • There might be some issue with the wiring
