P0259 - OBD Trouble Code
OBD Code P0259 - Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control B High (Cam/Rotor/Injector)
Is
your vehicle’s Check Engine Light illuminated? Are you experiencing sudden
decrease in engine power and acceleration? Is there a drop in the fuel economy
with increased level of emissions? All these indicate problem with the fuel
delivery system and the Powertrain Control Module, thus flashing OBD Code P0259
error.
Learn More About OBD Error Code P0259
The
code P0259 Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control B High (Cam/Rotor/Injector) is
set when the voltage at the sensor stays above a set level (usually over 4.8V)
for too long a period. This code is usually considered to be an electrical
circuit issue. Refer to a vehicle specific repair manual to determine the
problematic area and solve the problem.
Whenever
the PCM finds discrepancy in the voltage signal, it will set this error code
and thus needs immediate diagnostic as it will lead to direct impact on the
fuel delivery as well as the engine performance output.
What causes the problem of
Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control B High (Cam/Rotor/Injector)?
- Leaky/damaged
in the fuel injector
- Poor
fuel pump
- Leakage
in the engine vacuum
- Some
fault in the oxygen sensor
- Mass
air flow or manifold air pressure sensor failure
- Poor electrical connections
- PCM failure
Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P0259
- Diagnostic Tools - You will need high grade diagnostic tools for correction
of the OBD error code which is detected. Buy now to grab amazing deals.
- Powertrain Control
Module - PCM faults can store and display wrong OBD Code which can result
in wrong diagnosis. Thus, replace the damaged components now.
- Fuel Pressure
Sensor - Check for faulty FPS and replace it now!
- Fuel Filter - Check and replace faulty fuel filter to avoid any
hindrance to the fuel delivery and thus the engine performance.
- Fuel Control Actuator - If the
actuator is faulty, the fuel will not be correctly delivered to the injector
and thus will result in delivery problems. Thus, replace it now!
- Fuel Pump - If the fuel
pump is leaky or damaged, resolve the issue immediately. But new pump now!
- Fuel Pressure Regulator - It is important for the regulator to work properly to keep the check on the fuel demands by the engine. Thus, replace faulty parts now!
- Fuel Pressure Gauge - Check if the pressure gauge is working perfectly. If not, replace it first.

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P0259
Diesel
engines, like gasoline engines, are controlled using a PCM. In most instances,
your vehicle’s PCM provides the fuel control actuator with a voltage signal
just before fuel is injected into your cylinders. A sensor in the fuel rail,
fuel injection pump, or fuel pressure regulator inputs a voltage signal back to
the PCM, and the PCM then uses this input signal to monitor pulse width,
volume, and fuel pressure. This is why a scanner, digital volt/ohmmeter, and a
fuel pressure gauge will help you to diagnose the potential causes for this
code.
Always
begin your diagnosis with a careful visual inspection of your system’s
components, electrical connectors, and circuitry. Repair or replace any items
that appear to be damaged, disconnected, or contaminated. Next—and this is very
important—connect your scanner to your vehicle and record all freeze frame data
and stored codes.
Check
for any open, short, corroded or damaged wirings and connections in association
with the sensor and the circuit and repair or replace the faulty wirings
immediately.
If
the Check Engine Light comes on, visually inspect the fuel tank, fuel lines,
and fuel filter for any faults and damaged that can be repaired or replaced
completely.
Take
the manual fuel pressure readings at the fuel rail and compare it to
manufacturer’s specifications. Use a scan tool to compare manual readings to
what the ECM sees.
Lastly,
the fuel pump is tested and replaced if found faulty. Examine the fuel injector
properly for any damages or leaks and replace or repair as necessary. Use the
noid light for pulse check and do a sound test to check the proper functioning
of the injector.
Check
for PCM (Powertrain Control Module) faults. Although rare in nature, these
faults can cause wrong error being stored in the PCM and also hampers the
vehicle’s performance by affecting the exhaust system, intake system, fuel
delivery system, etc.
Common Mistakes When
Diagnosing The P0259 Code
Most
of the time we tend to diagnose the problem without completely identifying the
real cause of it. It is important to follow all the diagnostic steps and
examine each component carefully before correcting. Some of the components to
be focused on are listed below;
- Clogged
fuel filter
- Fuel
pressure regulator failure
- Fuel
pump failure
- Leaking
fuel lines
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM) failure
- Wiring/harness issue
