P0069 OBD Error Code: Problem & Solutions

OBD Code P0069 - Manifold Absolute Pressure - Barometric Pressure Correlation

<<See All OBD Codes

Is your Check Engine Light illuminated on the car’s dashboard? Are you experiencing sudden drop in the fuel economy with stalling of the engine? Or is there any smoke coming from the exhaust pipe? Then, there might be a possibility of an issue with the MAP pressure of the car, thus indicating OBD Code P0069 error.

Learn More About OBD Error Code P0069

OBD Code P0069 means that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is detecting contradictory readings from the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor and the Barometric Pressure Sensor.

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor tells the engine control module (PCM) how much pressure is in the engine manifold. The Barometric Pressure Sensor (usually built into the Mass Airflow Sensor) tells the PCM the amount of boost pressure created by the turbocharger. The control module compares the two sensors to determine if one of the sensors has lost its calibration. If the PCM determines there is a calibration issue with one or both of the sensors, the PCM will set code P0069.

What causes problem of Manifold Absolute Pressure-Barometric Pressure Correlation?

  • Faulty barometric pressure sensor
  • Fault in the circuitry of MAP Sensor & Barometric Pressure Sensor
  • Faulty Powertrain Control Module
  • Dirty air filter
  • Mass Air Flow Sensor failure
  • Vacuum Leakages
  • Wiring and connection problems

Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P0069

  1. Powertrain Control Module - OBD Error Code P0069 can also be due to faulty PCM. This may lead to engine stalling or not starting, and check engine lights being on. It’s better to get the faulty electricals replaced as soon as possible.
  2. Mass Air Flow Sensor - Wrong information sent by the sensor will affect the engine performance adversely as it will not be able to properly read the air entering the system thus hampering the air to fuel ratios directly impacting the engine’s output. Thus, it is advisable to replace them in time.
  3. Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor - If you are experiencing any problem with the pressure sensor, you should replace them immediately. Shop from us now!
  4. Barometric Pressure Sensor - The BAP Sensor is used to measure the atmospheric pressure of the environment the engine is driving in. Thus, it plays a very important role in the engine’s performance. Replace the faulty BAP sensor now!
  5. Air Filter - Dirty or clogged air filters will reduce the air intake capacity and thus hamper the combustion process of the engine. Clean or replace them immediately.
  6. Diagnostic Tools - Use professional level tools to detect and correct the OBD code problems. Buy now!

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P0069

A qualified technician should be hired to attend to the OBD error code problem who can use professional scan tools efficiently and can therefore diagnose the problem with ease. Following are the steps:

  • Use a scan tool and put it in vehicle's OBD-II port to confirm presence of P0069 error code.
  • Data is freeze framed and vehicle speed, operating temperature, engine speed, and operating time is checked for when the code was detected.
  • A road test is performed with a scan tool installed in the OBD-II port to confirm an issue is present.
  • Visually inspect the wiring on both MAP sensor and MAF sensor for damaged/broken wiring, swapped connectors, or wiring shorted to ground or power.
  • Also check the BAP sensor for any physical damage and repair immediately.
  • Use a Multimeter to check that no wiring the distorted or short.
  • Check for the car’s ECU and replace if needed.

Common mistake when diagnosing the P0069 code

  • Check of faulty wiring and connectors first. Avoid jumping straight to PCM for problems and it will give faulty test results. Follow the step by step diagnosis process at all times keeping in mind the specific make and model.
  • Never directly replace the MAP/MAF/BAR sensors without checking for all the problems and components. This is simply rushing into things and costly repairs without doing a full diagnosis.
