P0063 - OBD Trouble Code
OBD Code P0063 - HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 2 Sensor 3)
<<See
All OBD Codes
Decreased engine
performance and fuel mileage, hard starting, black smoke from the exhaust pipe
and Check Engine Light On are some of the indicatives of the OBD Code P0063
being stored in the PCM.
P0062 indicates
that the heater element used to heat up an oxygen sensor has malfunctioned.
Learn More About OBD Error Code P0063
Heated
Oxygen sensors (HO2S) are inputs used by the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to
determine oxygen content in the exhaust system. Bank 2, sensor 3 refers to the
third sensor back on Bank 2. The PCM uses the information gained from the Bank
2, 3 HO2S mainly to monitor the efficiency of the catalytic converter. Integral
to this sensor is a heater element
Low
amount of voltage signal sent from the oxygen sensor to the PCM causes this
code to flash. The PCM sends a voltage to the heater circuit of the oxygen
sensor to warm it up to a desirable temperature and the sensor emits a certain
resistance and voltage according to the amounts of gasses and air that the
sensor is picking up. The PCM takes the readings of the
oxygen sensor to ensure the desirable air-fuel ratio of the engine. If the
voltage sent by the oxygen sensor is lower than that of the PCM’s desired
range, code P0063 is set.
What causes the problem of HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low
(Bank 2 Sensor 3)?

Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P0063
- Oxygen Sensor - A faulty sensor will transmit wrong information to the PCM
and will affect the overall engine performance. Replace faulty sensor now!
- Oxygen Sensor Connector - A faulty
Oxygen Sensor Connector will not be able to read the composition of air
entering out the engine combustion system and hamper performance. Thus, replace
faulty connectors now!

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P0063
With
the help of a professional mechanic, inspect all the components related to this
error and follow the step by step diagnosis and carefully analyse the situation
to diagnose this problem.
- Visually
inspect Bank 2, Sensor and wiring/harness and repair/replace as needed. Make
sure wiring is routed away from exhaust.
- Next,
unplug the Bank 2, Sensor 3 HO2S and verify that there is 12 volts B+ present
with the key on engine off, or ground is present, depending on the system.
- Unplug
the connector from the oxygen sensor you want to test. Refer to your vehicle’s
repair manual for the locations of the HT and +B connections. If the DVOM reads
OL the oxygen sensor is bad and needs to be replaced.
- Clear
all codes and test drive the vehicle to see if the code returns. In the
unlikely event that the code does return, there may be an intermittent fault
present.
- Check
for PCM failure and repair or reprogram is as per the requirement to fix the
error and test again.
Common Mistakes When Diagnosing The P0063 Code
Check of faulty
wiring and connectors first. Avoid jumping straight to ECU for problems and it
will give faulty test results. Follow the step by step diagnosis process at all
times keeping in mind the specific make and model.
- Not
examining for blown fuses
- Replacing the sensor without examining the electricals and connectors
- Replacing
the oxygen sensor without measuring resistance and voltage.
