About oil filter
Oil filters are curated to carefully extract the hazardous contaminants from the engine oil, transmission oil, lubricating oil or hydraulic oil. The oil filters can be employed in various hydraulic machinery. Primarily, it serves in the internal-combustion engines in on-and off-road motor vehicles, light aircraft and several naval vessels. Not only this, other vehicle hydraulic systems found in automatic transmissions, gas turbine engines like jet aircraft and power steering are also equipped with an oil filter. In addition to the basic functions, oil production, transport and recycling facilities also need filters in the manufacturing process.
What is the purpose of oil filter?
An oil filter aids greatly in removing the hazardous contaminants from the car engine oil. If left unchecked, these contaminants accumulate over time. Using an Oil filter is imperative as if the oil is left unfiltered for a longer period of time, it becomes saturated with tiny, hard particles that damage the surface of the engine, thereby reducing its shelf life.
How oil filter works?
The filter is made from a metal can with a sealing gasket that enables it to be tightly held against the engine’s mating surface. It helps in cooling the engine by transferring heat and seals the gap between the piston rings and cylinder walls. From here, the contaminants are absorbed and the soot particles are suspended. The organic contaminants include fungus and bacteria from air while organic ones include dust that is sucked into the engine while it is running.
