A fuel filter is found within the fuel line and performs the task of screening the particles of dirt and rust from the fuel, generally turned into cartridges that contain a filter paper. What is the purpose of fuel filter?
A fuel filter performs primary filtering function of the gasoline. It is contained in the fuel section. Such filters are used in both gas and diesel vehicles to remove, if not frequently tested, the large amount of dirt, rust and debris that appears to accumulate out of the fuel onto the bottom of the fuel tank. It is therefore essential to test the fuel filter from time to time in order to prevent sediment clogging and to maintain the operation of high-precision parts present in the injection systems.
How fuel filter works?
A fuel filter has a medial filter, as well as an inlet and outlet for fuel entry and exit. When the fuel pump is pushing fuel at high pressure along the fuel lines, this will cause the fuel to move through the filter media. The filtration media is porous, and the fuel flows through leaving the particles behind depending on the size of the pores. Also, a mechanism that removes the water from the fuel is present in a number of fuel filters, specifically those in diesel engines. At the bottom is a bowl where the water is separated from the gasoline, and the dust is collected. Drain valve allows water bowl to be filled. Where is fuel filter located?
The fuel filters are placed anywhere between the fuel pump and the engine while most conventional vehicles have the filter inside the fuel tank, with some fuel pump assemblies that incorporate the fuel filter within. The older vehicles were connected to the fuel line by the fuel filter present underneath the chassis. The filter on the engine bay where the contaminants are extracted is present in numerous vehicles. Hence, the position of the filter depends on a variety of factors such as the manufacture of the vehicle, type, and year.
