All About Car Cabin Filter

In any vehicle's heating and cooling system, an air cabin filter is essential. It assists passengers in protecting themselves from pollutants in the air they breathe. Learn more about this component of your vehicle and how to properly maintain it.

What Is A Car Cabin Filter?

The car’s HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system is equipped with an air filter just like the vehicles' engine. Don’t know anything further? Well, PartsAvatar will keep you informed! It is referred to as a cabin filter. It plays the same role for the HVAC system as the engine air filter does for your car’s engine. It is a tiny pleated filter composed of multi-fiber paper cotton or other engineered materials. Before getting into the passenger compartment, the outside air passes through this filter to collect the pollutants present inside the filter in order to prevent them from entering the vehicle.

Where Are All The Components Of Car Cabin Filter Located?

Don’t know where the cabin filter is located? It can be found behind the glove box. To use it, all you have to do is open the glove box and take everything out of it. Then remove the small arm that supports it and squeeze the two small plastic tabs inwards to release the complete glove box.

After removing the glove box, remove the plastic latches that hold the faceplate and pull the air filter out. Further, inspect the seals and gaskets to ensure that the air filter assembly performs properly.

Also, in several vehicles, the cabin air filter is located under the hood. In such cases, the manufacturer’s specific manual should be followed. In several vehicles, plastic latches (such as many engine air filter boxes) hold the cover. Also, sometimes, it also has screws, wing nuts, or other fasteners keeping it fixed.

We advise you to check on your cabin air filter and install it as per the directions to keep it safely fixed in its place.

Step 1

Firstly, you need to open the glove box and take out all the contents present inside it.

Then all you have to do is pull out the old cabin air filter (be careful not to spread any dust, dirt, and trash from the filter into the car). Now that the old filter has been removed, note the direction of the arrows as they indicate the direction of the airflow.

Step 5

Next, it is important to clean the filter chamber and check the seals and gaskets before installing the new cabin air filter, vacuum the filter chamber. Clean it using a damp cloth to remove any leftover pollutants. Then check the condition of exhaust gaskets and seals to ensure that they don’t require replacement as well.

Step 6

Finally, you can install the new filter (ensure that it matches the old one). Also, check the directional arrows engraved/embossed on the new car air filter for proper installation.(that should be in the

Step 7

The glove box and the faceplate should be replaced too once the filter is in its place. Don’t forget to reinstall the limiting stop and put everything in the box.
