Chevrolet Equinox Oxygen Sensor
About oxygen sensor
Oxygen sensor is electronically controlled device, mainly utilized for maintaining a good balance of fuel and air mixture which make the vehicle more efficient and green.
How oxygen sensor Works?
Gasoline burns in the engine in the presence of oxygen and the main objective of the oxygen sensor is to find out the perfect mixture of both air and gasoline. A particular ratio of air and fuel is called stoichiometric which is the ideal ratio and is close to 14.7:1, if there is less air in this ratio then there is fuel left over after combustion. This is called a rich mixture (unburnt fuel causes air pollution). If there is excess air in this perfect ratio, then this is called lean mixture (reduces efficiency and power), The oxygen sensor is positioned in the exhaust pipe and can sense the quantity and quality of air and fuel mixtures or in simple terms can detect lean and rich mixtures diue the excess oxygen or lack thereof. Oxygen sensors involves a chemical reaction that can generate a voltage, based on the voltage identity it can detect or adjust the flow of fluid entering the engine accordingly.
Where is oxygen sensor Located?
The oxygen sensor is located in the exhaust pipes for easy calculation of air and fuel mixture.
