It is essential to do some preliminary testing. For which, use a scan tool to control and regulate the transmission temperature sensor data parameter. Then the ground side of the circuit should be checked by connecting the meter (set to ohms, with the ignition off) found between the ground terminal on the transmission fluid temperature sensor and the ground terminal on the PCM. If there is an open circuit between the PCM and sensor, it should be fixed if in case the meter reads out of limits (OL). There is continuity, if the meter records a numeric value. Lastly, the PCM should be checked for good grounds by connecting one meter lead to the PCM ground terminal and the other to frame ground. If in case, the meter records out of limits (OL), an open circuit between the PCM and ground should be suspected. Locate it and repair it. If the circuit is good, there can be problems with the transmission. This applies when if the transmission fluid temperature codes are stored along with other transmission codes.
