P216E - OBD Trouble Code

OBD Code P216E - Fuel Injector Group F Circuit Low

<<See All OBD Codes

Is your Car’s Check Engine Light illuminating on the dashboard? Do you find sudden decrease in the fuel economy? And is the car engine running rough with increased emissions from the exhaust? This might be the indication of problems with the fuel delivery system of the car which in other words can be an OBD code P216E error.

Learn More About OBD Error Code P216E

When the ECM detects that fuel injector Group F circuit voltage is low, it sets the code P216E in the system.

The fuel injector has a certain range it can work within to adapt to the vehicle's changing needs but, that being said, if your engine's fuel requirements surpass the injectors learnability curve, the ECM (Engine Control Module) will activate this code to let you know it can no longer adapt to the current situation.

What causes this problem with the Fuel Injector Group F Circuit Low?

  • Damaged or clogged fuel injector
  • Faulty fuel filter
  • Broken fuel pump
  • Fuel injector wiring and connector issue
  • PCM problems
  • Oxygen sensor failure

Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P216E

  1. Powertrain Control Module - P216E code can display due to some issues in the Powertrain Control Module. Faulty PCM can lead to engine stalling and vehicle going into fail safe mode. Thus the PCM might need to be repaired, replaced or reprogrammed, if required.
  2. Diagnostic Tool - Usually any OBD code problem requires deep insight into the problem and high grade tools in order to fix it properly. Thus, buy quality diagnostic tools from us!
  3. Oxygen Sensor - The O2 sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold to monitor how much unburned oxygen is in the exhaust as the exhaust exits the engine. Monitoring oxygen levels in the exhaust is a way of gauging the fuel mixture. Thus, replace faulty O2 sensor now!
  4. Fuel Injector - Bad or clogged fuel injector can cause repeated engine stalling, engine misfires, lack of power, and excessive smoke from the exhaust. Thus, it needs to be replaced immediately. Buy new fuel injector now!
  5. Fuel Sender Connector - If the connector is damaged, it should be immediately replaced as it can cause leakages and reduce the power output as well. This will also result in engine lean and rich conditions also. Thus, replace faulty sender connector now!
  6. Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor - The fuel tank pressure sensor helps in many ways, most importantly by saving fuel, minimizing environmental pollution, and preventing damage to the engine. The pressure sensor, which is normally positioned inside or on top of the tank, works to detect the pressure in the fuel system, with the end goal of identifying leaks and defective gas caps. Thus, replace faulty sensor now!
  7. Fuel Pressure Regulator - A fuel pressure regulator is a device used to control the pressure of fuel supplied to the fuel injectors on an engine, even during dramatic changes in fuel demand. Controlling this pressure is needed so that the fuel injectors can receive and dispense fuel at a known rate. So, it is important to replace faulty regulator now!
  8. Fuel Pump - A faulty pump with low pressure will disturb the engine's air-fuel ratio, which can cause all sorts of performance problems. Aside from hard starting, the vehicle may experience misfires, a loss in power and acceleration, a decrease in fuel efficiency, and even engine stalling. Buy new fuel pump from us!

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P216E

Here are some steps which you should follow in order to diagnose this P216E fault code:

  • Freeze frame data and record all the stored fault code by the PCM. This data can be useful if an intermittent fault is diagnosed later on.
  • Sine code P216E indicates rich condition in the cylinder 7, it is unlikely to be caused by wiring issues, unless the fuel pressure regulator is electrically operated. Also check for problematic fuel pressure sensor.
  • Check for damaged fuel pump and fuel filters and replace if needed.
  • Access the injector connector (for the injector in question) and use the DVOM to test for injector voltage and a ground pulse (the latter from the PCM).
  • Connect the fuel pressure gauge to the system, and leave the code reader connected, if the vehicle can start. Start the engine, and monitor the actual pressure in the fuel system via the gauge, and the scanner. If the pressure rises steeply, or remains steady whatever the reading, it is almost certain that the pressure regulator is faulty.
  • Replace the vacuum hose if a leaky, and again examine the pressure regulator. If the problem persists and there is a strong vacuum present, and the fuel pressure regulator needs to be replaced. After replacement, check if the code reappears.
  • If the vehicle cannot start, it may be because the excessive fuel pressure is deactivating the pump. Use the manual on the correct procedure to remove the pump, and to replace the regulator.
  • Clear all codes and test drive the vehicle with a suitable scanner connected to record the fuel pressure under changing engine loads/speeds. If the scanner cannot monitor live data streams, retest the fuel pressure after the test drive, and scan the system to see if the code has returned.
  • Check for faults in the Powertrain Control Module and replace or repair as necessary.

Common mistakes when diagnosing P216E Code

  • Clogged or damaged air filter not checked
  • Damaged or contaminated spark plug bot replaced
  • Faulty fuel pressure sensor not examined
  • Not checking for exhaust leaks
  • Fuel injector failure not examined
  • Powertrain Control Module (PCM) replaced without doing proper diagnosis
  • Wrong fuel used in the vehicle
