P2136 - OBD Trouble Code
Obd Code P2136 - Throttle Pedal Sensor Voltage Correlation DTC
You
managed to figure out why your vehicle is acting out. The P2136 code has been
by the Engine Control Module of your car. Well, don’t worry this is a generic
OBD-II code and is set when there’s an unacceptable voltage detected by the ECM
between the throttle pedal position sensors A and C. We have all the
information you need to understand this code and also resolve it.
Learn More About OBD Error Code P2136
Your vehicles throttle position sensor is
located on the Throttle body of the intake manifold. The pedal position sensor
is also part of the accelerator pedal assembly, both these sensors inform the
PCM how fast the driver is trying to go and how quickly he wants the speed to
be increased. The P2136 code is set by the PCM module when it detects an issue
with this sensor or its circuit. In order to keep the vehicle and the driver
safe it may also make the vehicle go into limp mode, in such a case the vehicle
will run 20 mph or less
What causes this problem with the Throttle Pedal Sensor Voltage Correlation
DTC?
- The signal from TPS sensors A and C don’t
correlate to each other
- There’s an internal fault present in any one of
the sensors
- Loose or broken connections in the sensor
circuit or the connector

- Throttle Plate - this is the
largest part of the throttle body; it regulates the airflow in your vehicle. It
Is a butterfly valve, and very important for the functioning of the throttle
body of your vehicle. If you have noticed any issues with it, try to repair, or
opt for replacement from partsavatar.
- Electronic Throttle
Body - Is responsible for connecting the accelerator
pedal to the throttle. Any malfunction of this can cause the vehicle to not
maintain the right speed. It can also cause accidents. Hence it is important to
repair the issue or replace it and get rid of the P2136 code. Shop for

been set. Buy from a wide range of tools which can help you resolve not just
the P2136 OBD error but also various others. Simply order online at
PartsAvatar.
- Engine Control Module - The ECM module is responsible for controlling the fuel mixture, ignition
timing, variable cam timing and emissions control etc. of your vehicle so if
it’s not functioning properly it can result in the P2136 code setting. It’s
best to either repair or replace it and get rid of the code. You can buy

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P2136
It is essential to diagnose this
fault code. Here are some steps which a mechanic should follow for diagnosing
the problem that triggered a P2136 code to be stored:
The electronically controlled throttle system is
extremely sensitive and hence easily damaged. You can to be extremely careful
and patient while handling the components. If you think you need help from a
professional, then don’t hesitate to approach a trained mechanic. Upon initial
inspection you will find a flat plastic cover on the throttle body, the gears
that actuate the throttle plate are located there. There's A small metal gear
that protrudes through the housing under the cover, this drives a large
“plastic” gear which is attached to the throttle plate. A pin is present in the
throttle body housing which helps in centering and supporting the gear. There’s
also a pin on top that fits into the “thin” plastic cover, so it’s important
that this cover isn’t damaged in anyway. If it is distorted then the gear will
be affected negatively and require a full replacement of the throttle body. Now
it’s time to get hold of your vehicle Technical Service Bulletins or TSB. This
will help you the steps for diagnosis. Connect your OBD scanner to the vehicles
diagnostic port and retrieve all the data and freeze frame it. You will have to
resolve the codes that were set prior to P2136 if there are any, chances are
this code was set due to an issue present with the other codes.
Now you can safely pull the electrical connector
out of the throttle body and inspect it for any missing or bent female
terminals, be careful while performing this inspection. Any corrosion found
will have to be repaired or cleaned via small screwdriver, apply some
electrical grease on the terminals and reconnect it. If any parts are missing
or not in good condition you can find replacements for them and sort the issue.
Probe the accelerator pedal sensor with a
voltmeter and you will find a 5 volts for reference and varying signal next to
it. Depress the pedal slowly after turning the key on, the voltage should
increase from .5 to 5.0 in a smooth manner. If you find that the voltage
spikes, or there no voltage at the signal wire, you will have to replace it.
Locate the wire terminal on the throttle body of
you specific vehicle, for this you can refer the TSB, once you have found it,
probe the throttle body connector for power to the throttle motor. Have someone
help you by turning on the key and slightly depressing the pedal, if you find
that there's no power present, then it’s an issue with the computer. If there’s
power, then it's clear that there’s a malfunction of the throttle body.
View the voltage output of each sensor, they
should be within the specifications of the manufacturer. To be able to note
these, use a multimeter or scan tool and brack prove the accelerator pedal
position sensor and throttle position sensor. Using the multimeter test the ohm
levels of the accelerator pedal position sensor as well as the throttle
position sensor. Make note if they’re within the range specified by the
manufacturer, to know these ranges you can refer the TSB.
It’s very important that the TSB should be for
the exact make model of your vehicle. Ensure you are able to follow them
correctly and all the ranges are within the manufactured specifications.
Common mistakes when diagnosing the P2136 code
- Not checking and freeze framing the codes set in
the ECM memory
- Not clearing the codes after each repair or
replacement to check if the issue is fixed
- Replacing the TPS hurriedly without even
verifying if the sensor has an issue
