P0752 OBD Error Code: Problem & Solutions

OBD Code P0752 - Shift Solenoid A Stuck On

<<See All OBD Codes

P0752 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for "Shift Solenoid A Stuck On". Most automatic transmissions incorporate at least three solenoids that are solenoid A, B and C. The P0752 OBD-II trouble code is associated with a detected stuck on transmission Shift Solenoid "A". The P0752 code is detected when the gear required by the ECM does not match the actual gear when vehicle is driven.

Learn More About OBD Error Code P0752

Error code P0752 is set when PCM detects an abnormality in shift solenoid A and this code is technically defined as Shift Solenoid A Stuck ON. When the transmission solenoid is stuck on, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. Transmission Control Module (TCM) uses Shift Solenoids to control the hydraulic pressure in the transmission which is needed to apply the various clutch packs in the transmission that provide the different gear ratios needed to efficiently propel the vehicle down the roadways. When the TCM detects a shift, solenoid is not performing as desired, it will set code P0752.

What causes this problem with the Shift Solenoid A Stuck On?

  • Blocked transmission filter
  • Inadequate level of transmission fluid
  • Polluted or contaminated transmission fluid
  • Fallacious Shift Solenoid A
  • Restricted hydraulic passages
  • Faulty wiring and Loose or corroded connector
  • Faulty PCM

Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P0752

  1. Shift Solenoid - A shift solenoid opens and closes the valves that allow hydraulic fluid to flow in and out of a transmission. It is computer-controlled and electronically activated.
  2. Shift Valve - The shift valves are simple balance- type spool valves that select between low and high gear when the manual valve is in drive. Using control pressure, they operate the bands, servos, and gear sets. Oil pressure from the other transmission valves acts on each end of the shift valve. Replace the fallacious shift valves in no time else can create serious problems.
  3. Transmission Filter - Inspect the transmission filter carefully and replace it if you discover it clogged or broken as it will pollute the transmission fluid and lead to even more damage to transmission.
  4. Transmission Valve Body - The valve body contains many of the hydraulic valves, such as the pressure regulator, shift valves, manual valve, and others used in an automatic transmission. The valve body bolts to the bottom of the transmission case and is housed in the transmission pan. It should be inspecting thoroughly and replace or repair as required.

Symptoms Of OBD Error Code P0752

Below mentioned are some common symptoms for the OBD code P0752. If you discover any of them then take your vehicle to a reputed repair facility and get it rectified at earliest to avoid any major issue in near future.

  • Transmission will not shift gears
  • Harsh shifting
  • Slippage of transmission
  • Overheating of transmission
  • Vehicle may enter into limp mode
  • Fall in fuel efficiency
  • Illuminated check engine light

How To Correct P0752 Shift Solenoid A Stuck On

Due to this trouble code the main problem you will face is the difficulty while shifting gears or you may not even able to shift gears. If you try forcing the vehicle into gear, you might end up with even more damage to the transmission. To avoid any such condition this error code should be addressed immediately. Following repairs and replacements may help you to fix this code:

  • Check out the transmission filter carefully; Replace it if it is clogged or broken.
  • Replace the faulty Shift solenoid.
  • Check out the level of transmission fluid and top up if required.
  • Change the transmission fluid if you discover if dirty or contaminated.
  • Repair or replace the faulty wiring and connectors.
  • Repair or replace the faulty PCM.

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P0752

Diagnosing trouble code P0752 is not difficult but it is always recommended to get your vehicle diagnosed by an experienced diagnostician because it may require some diagnosing tools and major replacements. Below mentioned are the steps to diagnose the trouble code P0752:

  • Begin any transmission diagnosis with an inspection of the transmission fluid dipstick (if equipped).
  • Make sure that the fluid level is within manufacturer’s specified recommendations and that the fluid is in good condition.
  • Visually inspect all internal wiring and connectors, look for shorted or burned wiring and replace circuitry and connectors as required.
  • If the system wiring, connectors, and components appear to be in normal working order, connect the scanner to the diagnostic connector and record all stored trouble codes and freeze frame data.
  • If the transmission fluid appears to be in decent shape, but the fluid level is low, add enough fluid to locate a leak and repair it.
  • If either the reference voltage or ground circuits are open, use the digital volt/ohmmeter to check for continuity (disconnect all related control modules from the circuit before checking circuit resistance or controller damage may occur) and resistance in all circuits.
  • Repair or replace system circuitry, connectors, and/or components that fail to coincide with manufacturer’s specs.
  • Always retest the system to ensure a successful repair. If all system circuits are intact connecting the scanner to the diagnostic connector and attempt to manually activate the shift solenoid/s in question.
  • If the shift solenoid functions properly and all circuits coincide with manufacturer’s specifications, suspect a defective PCM.
  • Remember that PCM failure is rare and replacement will require reprogramming.
