If your vehicle has the error code P0741 stored, don’t panic. We will provide you with all the information needed to understand, diagnose and solve this OBD-II code. This code is defined as a Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off. It is set by the Powertrain Control Module of the vehicle or PCM.

When the PCM noticed a difference between rotational speed of the Torque convertor and Transmission Input shaft which is greater than 200 RPM, it will proceed to set this code. Typically, when the Torque Converter Lockup Clutch engages there has to be a 1:1 ratio between the converter RPM and the Input Shaft RPM. Discrepancies found in this will lead to this error code.

Learn More About OBD Error Code P0741

As mentioned above the PCM sets this P0741 diagnostic trouble code when it observes a faulty difference between the rotational speed of the torque converter and the transmission input shaft which is greater than 200 revolutions per minute (RPM).

The speed should normally be equal between the torque converter and the transmission shaft, when the torque converter lockup engine engages. In the situation where they’re not equal and the desired 1:1 ratio is not present, the PCM will proceed to set error code P0741. This will be set as an indication that the torque converter clutch circuit has malfunctioned or has gotten stuck.
