OBD Code P069A - Cylinder 9 Glow Plug Control Circuit Low
Why
are glow plugs used? What is a P069A error codes? They are used in diesel
engine to preheat the cylinder. If the ECM finds that the glow plus is not
operating, the P069A error code is set.
Learn More About OBD Error Code P069A
Glow
plugs help in providing the required heat during cold temperature to the
engines. Hey are heated during the initial start and before/after cranking. The
Powertrain control module monitors coolant temperature and glow plug voltage by
controlling the ON times. If the feedback voltage is not within the range, the
error code is set.

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P069A
Here
are some steps which you should follow in order to diagnose this P069A fault
code:
- In
order to properly diagnose you will need a scanner, trusted source of
information and a DVOM. Search for an accurate TSB and locate it to match the
symptoms, vehicles model and make and other stored codes to help solving the
error code.
- You
will need additional information like diagnostic flowcharts, wire diagrams,
connector face views, connector pinout charts, component positions, and testing
process to properly diagnose the error code.
- Visually
inspect the glow plug, glow plug control wires, connectors and connect the
scanner to the vehicle to recover codes and freeze frame data. Test drive the
vehicle and either the PCM will enter readiness mode or it will be reset.
Continue diagnosing if code is reset. If not, there will be an irregular
condition and you have to worsen it for proper diagnosis.
- It
is best to remove glow plugs and apply the voltage. If it glows red, it’s good.
If not test it with a DVOM to meet the specification of the manufacturer. Be
careful while performing this test.
- If
the glow works properly, activate the glow plug timer and test the voltage with
the help of scanner. If you don’t find
voltage, test the glow plug timer/ controller for power supply. Test all its
related fuses and relays as said by manufacturer with loaded circuit. The fuse
which is not loaded with circuit will appear to function normally, but it will
lead to wrong path.
- If
both the fuse and relays function properly, test the output voltage with a
DVOM. If you find the voltage, there can be open or short circuit which you can
replace easily.
- As
it is a control circuit code, the error can happen because of faulty glow plug.
But a bad glow plug can only be a cause which results in error code.
- Ensure that you diagnose the right cylinder as it can save you from a big headache.
