Here are some steps which you should follow in order to diagnose this fault code:
- Diagnosing a P064D code is quite a
challenge. You will need the necessary equipment to fix the damaged controller
and make it successful.
- Before diagnosing the P064D code, the
PCM/ECM supply codes have to be fixed. There are many preliminary tests to be
conducted with the help of a diagnostic scanner, Digital Voltmeter Ohmmeter,
and a source of reliable vehicle information
- Recover all the codes and freeze frame
data by connecting the scanner to the diagnostic port. Write down this
information for further help in the process. Now test drive the vehicle until
the PCM enters readiness mode. If PCM enters this mode, it will be difficult to
diagnose as the connection is intermittent. The condition has to be made worse,
before diagnosing the P064D code.
- Search for the technical service
bulletin when you diagnose the P064D code. Finding the right TSB can help you

- If both the HO2S voltage and ground is
present, connect them again. Now test drive the vehicle again. Allow the engine
to be idle. Use scanner to examine the input data. When the PCM is in closed
loop, the upstream HO2S should move from rich to lean.
- The P064D code is generally caused by
a faulty controller where the negative test lead is connected to ground and the
positive test lead is connected to the battery voltage.
