Error Code P062C: What It Means & What To Do?

OBD Code P062C - Internal Control Module Vehicle Speed Performance

<<See All OBD Codes

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) also interchangeably known as the ECM or Electronic control module performs many important functions in a vehicle. One them is managing the fuel system, ignition system, transmission, Anti-lock brake and traction control systems. For this, the PCM regularly runs self-diagnosis by performing mathematical calculations. The code P062C is set when these calculations aren’t in sync with the ones expected as normal by the PCM.

Learn More About OBD Error Code P062C

There’s an internal performance error noted by the PCM module, that’s why the error code P062C is stored. Other controllers in a vehicle may also detect PCM performance errors (in VSS signal) and P062C to be stored. The responsibility for several controller self-test duties and overall internal control module accountability is on the Internal control module monitoring processors. The VSS signal input as well as output signals are monitored by the PCM and other related controllers. TCM (transmission control module) AND TCSM (traction control module) and various other controllers have to interact with the VSS signal.

What causes this problem with the Internal Control Module Vehicle Speed Performance?

  • Incompatible Software
  • Malfunctioning Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
  • The harness of the PCM is open or shorted
  • Poor electrical connection with the PCM circuit
  • Issues with module communications network
  • Issues arising from the Output shaft speed (OSS) sensor
  • Problematic turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor
  • Anti-lock brake system (ABS) not functioning properly

Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P062C

  1. PCM - It’s important to fix issues with the PCM, or replace it from a reliable place like Parts Avatar.
  2. VSS - The Vehicle speed sensor has a significant role to perform, if it needs repairing, do so. If not replace with Parts Avatar online easily.
  3. TCM - Transmission Control Module provides electronic signal to the automatic shift bodies in a vehicle, if any parts of the module need repairing proceed on, if that doesn’t resolve the issue, replace it stress-free from us.

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P062C

It is essential to diagnose this fault code. At times even the most experienced and well-equipped professional may have difficulty in diagnosing this error code. The need for reprogramming may also arise, hence it is important to have the necessary reprogramming equipment so that the defective controller can be replaced and the repair can be successful. Here are some steps for diagnosing the problem that triggered a P062C code to be stored:

  • Before proceeding to attempt diagnosis of P062C error code, check if any ECM/PCM power supply codes are present. These will have to be dealt with first. If at all any VSS codes are present they too must be diagnosed and repaired before diagnosing the P062C error code.
  • Procure the necessary equipment needed to conduct the preliminary tests. These include a diagnostic scanner, a digital volt/ohm meter (DVOM), oscilloscope. You will also require a reliable vehicle information source form your manufacturer. The Oscilloscope is used to test the VSS and VSS circuits of the vehicle.
  • Now connect the scanner to the diagnostic port of the vehicle. Retrieve all the stored codes and remember to freeze frame the data, you will have to note this down too, so that you can easily refer them as the diagnosing process continues. Clear all codes now and take your vehicle on a test-drive. Go on driving till the PCM code reappears or the PCM enter readiness mode. If you note the latter, then it means that the code is intermittent. Which means that it will be rather difficult to diagnose it. The state that caused the error code to set, may have to get worse before clear diagnosis can be made. If the code is reset, then simply continue with the following list of preliminary tests.
  • Using your vehicle’s TSB look up the code and symptoms and solutions. Information is everything to resolve this error. If the manufacturer has mentioned the symptoms and error code, you can simply follow the instructions. You can use the scanner or the oscilloscope for testing the VSS output with the engaged drivetrain. If you have opted to use the scanner then increase the accuracy of data displayed by narrowing the data stream (to only display pertinent fields). Observe any inconsistent or erratic readings from the VSS.

Common Mistakes When Diagnosing the P062C Code

Any CAN-Equipped vehicle that stored codes are a reaction to failed communication between modules. This confusion can lead to false interpretations of the code and replacement of the CAN. When in reality they have no relation with the CAN whatsoever.
