Guide To P044F OBD Error Code Solutions
OBD Code P044F - Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve "A" Circuit High
Do
you have any idea as when the switching valve circuit will turn high? What
causes the OBD error P044F in your vehicle? Proceed ahead to know its symptoms
and ways to recover. This is a general type of diagnostic trouble code. The computer-controlled
valve – Secondary air injection system (AIR) Switching valve controls the
injection of air into the exhaust system of the engine. The Switching valve may
be essential to the AIR pump.
Learn More About OBD Error Code P044F
The
code mainly arises due to a problem on the circuit of the solenoid but not on
the Air pump operation. The AIR injection system injects fresh air into the
exhaust port of the cold engine or the catalytic converter of the warm engine
thus reducing the emissions of Hydrocarbons (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO) and
oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). This can help to convert the Hydrocarbons and carbon
Monoxide into water vapor and carbon-dioxide (CO2) respectively.
There
can be a belt driven air pumps which has an electric clutch, but the most
common error lies with the electric air pump. The PCM (Powertrain control
module) controls the electric pump where the AIR pump relay control circuit is
grounded and it further provides voltage to the solenoid valve and AIR pump.
The fresh air supply tube has the check in valve which prevents the backing up
of exhaust gases into the AIR pump. The driver is monitored by the PCM which
activates the AIR pump for faults. The control circuit would pull the voltage
close to zero when the PCM commands the AIR pump relay to on. The battery
voltage of the control circuit will be present, once the relay is commanded
off. If the voltage of the PCM is higher, then the P044F error will be set.
What causes this problem with
the Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve "A" Circuit High?
- Damaged
air pump is not functioning.
- A
damaged or opened air bypass solenoid harness.
- Poor
electrical connection to the air bypass solenoid circuit.
- Connection
to the ground of control circuit is damaged.
- Voltage
short on the control circuit as it is damaged or open.
- A
short on the battery feed circuit to the solenoid as it is open
- A
short on the battery feed to the relay control circuit as it is open.
Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P044F
- Air Pump - Failure of the air pump control valve / switching valve can cause
this error. Replace or repair both the components.
- Air Pump Relay - Presence of fused battery
in your air pump relay can cause OBD error P044F. Replace the fused battery in
order to make your engine function normally.
- Air Bypass Solenoid - An opening or short circuit in the air bypass solenoid can cause
trouble in your system. If you are on the lookout for the right replacement
part, then Parts Avatar has got them for you.
- Air Injection System - Does your air injection system malfunction? Are there any faulty
or damaged parts? Why wait any longer? Replace or repair them immediately.
- Powertrain
Control Module -
This is one of the common issues in most of the OBD error. Failure of this
component can make your engine malfunction.
- Multimeter - Replacement or repair is
needed in case your multimeter is damaged. Resolve the issue as desired.
Symptoms Of OBD Error Code P044F
Are you so
keen to know the symptoms of OBD code P044F? If your answer is yes, then you
are at the right place. We at Parts Avatar have listed out few common symptoms
associated with Air Injection System Switching Valve "A" Circuit
High.
Common
Symptoms
- The engine
oil will show dilution from the ECU’s attempt in order to raise the temperature
of the engine. Some engines will slightly advance the timing of the fuel
injection after top centre to after burn a little amount of fuel in order to
increase the exhaust temperature. At times, the fuel will enter the crankcase.
When there is a need to regenerate the DPF, then the service life of the oil
will be shortened accordingly.
- Damaged or
fault in the wires.
- The engine
hesitates to accelerate.
- The light
may be irregular or it may stay when the DPF restarts. The engine will be
inactive upon acceleration.
How To Correct P044F Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve "A" Circuit High
Have a
look at some ways with which you can correct the P044F code:
If the engine misses a display and no code was available, figure out which cylinder causes misfire. If you can see the exhaust manifold, spray or pour a little amount of water on the exhaust port of each of the cylinder. On the good cylinders, water will evaporate quickly whereas the process will be slow in the missing cylinder. If this is not possible, then pull the plugs apart and check its condition. Disconnect the valve and connect the red voltmeter lead to the IMRC valve power wire and connect the black one to the ground. Try clearing the codes and test-drive the vehicle again to see if the code returns.

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P044F
In order
to diagnose the Engine error Code P044F, you have to check if there is any
fault in your engine. Some of them are mentioned below:
- Visually
inspect the components like fan, wires, electrical connectors, linked fuses and
control relay.
- If no
repair is needed, then you have to trigger the fan to power by both jumping the
relay and transferring 12 volts directly to the fan or by triggering it through
the air condition.
- It is not
difficult to diagnose or repair the trouble code P044F. If this error code
arises, then it is always good that you have a qualified technician to resolve
this issue.
- In order
to diagnose this issue, the engine has to be in good working condition, where
there should not be unmetered air that enters the engine. If there are other
troubles codes like misfire, lean running or presence of air in the engine,
then clear this issue first before proceeding with P044F.
Common mistakes when diagnosing the P044F code
- Wiring
issue.
- Problem
with the Powertrain control module.
- Separated
vacuum hose.
