Guide To P014C OBD Error Code Solutions
OBD Code P014C - O2 Sensor Slow Response - Rich To Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
If you
feel sudden drop in the engine performance and continuous stalling and hard
idles along with flashing of check engine lights on the dashboard, this may be
an indication of OBD Code P014C being stored in the PCM/ECM.
OBD-II
Code Decreased engine performance is defined as an O2 Sensor Slow Response -
Rich to Lean
Learn More About OBD Error Code P014C
When
PCM stores OBD code P014C, it means that the powertrain control module (PCM)
has detected a delayed response time from the downstream (or post catalytic
converter) oxygen (O2) sensor or circuit for engine bank two. Bank 1 specifies
the bank of the engine which does not contain the #2 cylinder.
The
voltage signal from oxygen sensor is higher when less oxygen is present in the
exhaust (rich condition) and when more oxygen is present in the exhaust (lean
condition), the voltage signal from the O2 sensor is low. This data is used by
the PCM primarily to calculate fuel delivery and ignition timing strategy but
also to monitor catalytic converter efficiency.
What causes the
problem of O2 Sensor Slow Response - Rich to Lean (B1 S1)?
- Failed
Bank 1 Sensor 1 O2 Sensor
- Short/open
wiring problem
- High
resistance and poor electrical connections
- ECU
(Engine Control Unit) error
Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P014C
- Powertrain Control
Module -
PCM issues directly affects the engine control and transmission control module.
Thus, replace faulty components now.
- Oxygen Sensor Cable - Check for faulty sensor
cables that will not be able to transmit the data properly and needs to be
replaced immediately.
- Exhaust Manifold - Faulty exhaust manifold
causes increased engine noises, loss of acceleration, power and fuel economy.
Repair or replace as necessary.
- Ambient Air
Temperature Sensor -
This sensor can help to manage the fuel delivery system and the engine
performance. Thus, replace and repair, if found faulty.
- Catalytic Converter - Sometimes catalytic converters
can overheat and become faulty. Replace your old catalytic converter now!
- Exhaust System - Replace damaged exhaust parts
immediately as a damaged one hampers the fuel economy and thus the performance.
- Mass Air Flow
Sensor -
Faulty MAF sensor can cause engine to run rich or lean under load, decrease
fuel efficiency and because rough engine idles. Thus, replace them now!
- Throttle Position
Sensor -
TPS helps to maintain the fuel to air ratios and thus hampers the engine
performance. Replace it now!
- Diagnostic Tools - Find wide range of diagnostic
tools to detect and correct the OBD code error.
Symptoms Of OBD Error Code P014C
Symptoms
of this code may include:

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P014C
- Install
a scan tool in vehicles OBD-II port to check if P014C is present or not.
- Freeze
frame data and test drive to check if the code reappears under same conditions.
- If the
Check Engine Light returns upon test, then the code is confirmed.
- Search
technical service bulletins (TSB) in your vehicle information source. If you
find one that matches the symptoms and code/s presented by the vehicle in
question, it will very likely aid you in your diagnosis. TSB listings are
compiled from thousands of successful repairs.
- Performs
a visual inspection of wiring and bank 1 sensor 1 for any damage, breaks, or
shorted wiring.
- If the
wiring is okay, the sensor itself will be tested to confirm operation. Upstream
O2 sensor data should fluctuate regularly between 1-millivolt (.100-volts) and
9-millivolts (.900-olts), if the engine is running efficiently. If voltage
fluctuations are slower than expected, a P014C will be stored.
- Check
for the voltage of Bank 1 sensor 1 and make sure it is not excessively low. If
low voltage is confirmed, bank 1 sensor 1 is faulty.
- A
diagnostic of the ECU (Engine Control Unit) will be performed, if the voltage
is not low and sensors are fine.
Common mistakes when
diagnosing the P014C code
P014C
is an uncommon code and following all diagnostic steps is important so nothing
is overlooked. Oxygen sensors should be properly examined and replaced, if
faulty. Always confirm low voltage for oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1 before any
replacement is performed and avoid going to the ECU straightaway.
