Error Code P00B8: What It Means & What To Do?

OBD Code P00B8 MAP - Mass or Volume Air Flow Correlation Bank 2

<<See All OBD Codes

Are you experiencing diminished fuel efficiency? Is your engine giving issues during cold start? Is the car engine stalling and losing acceleration? All these can be the indication of OBD Code P00B8.

This generic powertrain diagnostic trouble code (DTC) typically applies to many OBD-II vehicles. That may include but is not limited to vehicles from Land Rover, Ford, Alfa Romeo, Toyota, etc.

Learn More About OBD Code P00B8 Error

OBD-II Code Decreased engine performance is defined as a MAP - Mass or Volume Air Flow Correlation

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor tells the engine control module (PCM) how much pressure is in the engine manifold. The Mass Airflow Sensor tells the PCM the amount of air flowing through the engine. The control module compares the two sensors to determine if one of the sensors has lost its calibration. If the PCM determines there is a calibration issue with one or both of the sensors, the PCM will set code P00B8.

What causes the problem with the Mass or Volume Air Flow Correlation Bank 2?

  • Faulty MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor
  • Contaminated/Damaged MAF/VAF sensor
  • Damaged wiring or connectors that may be short or open
  • Breakage and leaky air inlet pipe
  • Problematic Engine Vacuum Pump
  • Faulty PCM that may require replacement or reprogramming
  • Poor electrical connection of sensor or circuit

Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P00B8

  1. Engine Control Module - Check for faulty ECMs. This may lead to engine stalling or not starting, and check engine lights being on. It’s better to get the faulty electricals replaced as soon as possible.
  2. Diagnostic Tool - Choose from our wide variety of diagnostic tools to detect and correct the OBD code error.
  3. Auto Switches & Sensors - Replace damaged or faulty switches and sensors immediately as they can be the prime reasons for OBD error.
  4. Powertrain Control Module - P00B8 error code can also flash due to PCM issue that may require replacement or reprogramming.
  5. Air Flow Sensor Connector - It is very important component as it provides vital information regarding the air intake to the engine control unit. Replace faulty connectors with us!
  6. Air Flow Sensor - A mass (air) flow sensor (MAF) is a sensor used to determine the mass flow rate of air entering a fuel-injected internal combustion engine. The air mass information is necessary for the engine control unit (ECU) to balance and deliver the correct fuel mass to the engine. Thus, a faulty sensor has to be replaced for proper functioning of the engine.
  7. Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor - The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is a key sensor because it senses engine load. The sensor generates a signal that is proportional to the amount of vacuum in the intake manifold. The engine computer then uses this information to adjust ignition timing and fuel enrichment.
  8. Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Connector - The MAP sensor connector helps in proper functioning of the engine control module. Faulty connector should be immediately replaced.

Symptoms Of OBD Error Code P00B8

This P00B8 error may cause reduced power, the engine may run rough, or the engine may crank but not start. There is typically an illuminated Check Engine light as well. At Parts Avatar Canada. get genuine replacement parts and performance parts for your vehicle available for all makes and model be it Volvo, Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Porsche, Ford, Land Rover, Audi, Hyundai, Fiat, etc. This error may also indicate problems that will likely affect:

Common Symptoms

  • Loss of engine power and acceleration
  • Exhaust being rich and lean
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Check engine light illuminated

How To Correct P00B8 MAP - Mass or Volume Air Flow Correlation Bank 2

Check for the plug wires to make sure they are not burnt or laying on the exhaust. With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead has to be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground. The connector cavity with dielectric silicone compound (same stuff they use for light bulb sockets and spark plug wires) needs to be packed and reassembled.

  • Clean the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) with a safe electronic cleaner, if dirty
  • Replace MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor), if found faulty
  • Replacement of damaged MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor)
  • Check for any vacuum pump and air intake pipe leakages/damages
  • Replace faulty/broken/open/short wiring and connectors to the sensors and circuits

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P00B8

P00B8 is properly diagnosed with an advanced scan tool capable of factory sensor readings (not just one from an auto parts store). A qualified technician can read the data from the advanced scan tool to determine when the problem occurred, or if it is still occurring. They may clear the code/light and test drive the vehicle while monitoring the scan tool data to see if the fault returns or is present.

Based upon the conditions of the test, possibly clearing the code, and road testing the car while monitoring the data, further diagnosis may be required. Diagnosis may require multiple tools such as:

  • A technician typically begins by hooking the vehicle up to an OBD-II scanner in order to verify that the code is present, and check for other codes.
  • This data along with freeze frame data is recorded, and the codes are then cleared to see if they reoccur.
  • Next, there should be a visual inspection of the wiring and connectors to check for loose connections, corrosion, or shorts.
  • Replacement of Damaged wiring/connections to the MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor and circuits.
  • Repair faulty PCM sensor that may require reprogramming.
  • Replace Leaky and damaged intake/inlet pipe immediately.
  • Faulty MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) needs replacement as it directly hampers the engine performance.
  • Common Mistakes When Diagnosing OBD Code P00B8

The MAF sensor signal is used by the PCM to calculate fuel delivery strategy, therefore a code P00B8 should be treated as severe.
