Guide To P0092 OBD Error Code Solutions
OBD Code P0092 - Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Circuit High
A direct impact
on the fuel delivery system can cause immediate loss of power form the engine
due to multiple reasons of malfunction and directly impacting the amount of
fuel entering the engine for combustion. Any mismatch in the fuel to air ration
will directly result in loss of power form the engine and record P0092 error
code in the PCM after detection of the problem. Check Engine Light is usually
the first indication of this OBD Error code P0092.
OBD-II Code
Decreased engine performance is defined as a Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control
Circuit High
Learn More About OBD Error Code P0092
Diesel engines
and gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines inject fuel directly into the
cylinder on compression. To make this possible, both systems utilize two fuel
pumps. A supply pump, mounted in or near the fuel tank, supplies fuel to the
secondary pump and, in the case of GDI engines, the port fuel injectors. This
primary pressure usually maxes out around 75 psi. The secondary mechanical fuel
pump, mounted on the engine, bumps that pressure many times higher, GDI engines
up to 2,500 psi and diesel engines over 4,000 psi.
This high fuel
pressure is necessary, to overcome cylinder pressures, as direct injections
systems need to inject fuel on the compression stroke, unlike low-pressure port
fuel injection systems, which injects fuel into a partial vacuum. At the same
time, such high fuel pressures can be inherently dangerous and destructive,
which makes fuel pressure regulation critical. The engine control module (ECM)
controls fuel rail pressure (FRP) by modulating the FRP regulator, using
feedback from the FRP sensor. If the ECM detects a problem in the FRP regulator
circuit, it will set a DTC (diagnostic trouble code), P0092 Fuel Rail Pressure
(FRP) Regulator Control Circuit High, and illuminate the MIL (malfunction indicator
lamp).
What causes the problem of Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Circuit

Replace/Repair These Parts To Fix OBD Code P0092
- Fuel Pump - Faulty fuel pump will affect the supply of fuel and thus the
engine’s performance. Replace it immediately.
- Fuel Pressure Sensor - If the sensor
the faulty, will not read the air pressure correctly thus affecting the air to
fuel ratio. Buy new pressure sensor form us.
- Fuel Pressure Regulator - It is
important to main a certain pressure and thus this component plays a very
important role in it. Replace faulty regulators now.
- Fuel Injection - This system is responsible
for supplying fuel with certain pressure, thus assisting the fuel delivery
system and engine combustion process. Replace faulty/damaged injectors now!
- Fuel Filters - Always check for
clogged/restricted fuel filters and clean them regularly. Replace if damaged.
Buy quality fuel filter from us.
- Diagnostic Tools - It is advised to use factory grade diagnostic tools to detect and diagnose the OBD error problem. Buy best tools and equipment from us.
- Engine Control Unit - ECU can be at
fault and hamper the engine performance and fuel delivery and transmission
system. Replace faulty components now!
Symptoms Of OBD Error Code P0092
Most
common symptoms include a no start condition, extended cranking before engine
starts, hesitation upon acceleration, and decreased fuel mileage, along with a
stored trouble code and malfunction indicator lamp illumination. Other codes
will also likely accompany this type of code including engine misfire codes,
lean and/or rich exhaust codes, and mass airflow sensor codes.
- Reduced
power and acceleration
- When
Idling or accelerating, engine is stalling or hesitating
- Engine
dies or is difficult to start
- Reduced fuel economy

Easy Diagnosis Of Engine Error OBD Code P0092
- The electronic fuel pressure regulator is used to maintain consistent fuel pressure across the fuel rail. Power is supplied to the regulator by the PCM and fuel pressure is monitored by the PCM via the fuel rail pressure sensor.
- The fuel rail pressure sensor inputs data to the PCM, voltage variations from the PCM output to the electronically controlled fuel pressure regulator and command the fuel pressure regulator to restrict or allow fuel as per requirement.
- PCM used other input signals from various engine sensors to develop a fuel delivery strategy.
- As voltage from the PCM is increased, the fuel pressure regulator actuator allows pressure from the fuel pump to build and as voltage from the PCM is decreased, fuel pressure is restricted.
- An OBD-II scanner or code reader, a digital volt/ohmmeter, and a fuel pressure gauge will be needed for successful diagnosis of this OBD code error.
- Visually inspect of all wiring and connectors to the sensors and regulators.
- Repair or replace damaged, disconnected, shorted, or corroded wiring, connectors, and components as necessary.
- Retest the system after repairs are completed to ensure that the OBD code doesn’t reappear. If all system wiring, connectors, and components appear to be in normal working order, connect the scanner to the diagnostic connector and record all stored codes and freeze frame data.
Common mistakes when diagnosing the P0092 code
Skipping the diagnostic steps and not following the order provided are the most common mistakes which can lead the misdiagnosis and unnecessary repairs and costs, which could have been avoided.
