OBD-II Code P0019 is defined as a Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation

The engine control module (PCM) uses a signal from the camshaft position sensor to determine the proper time to fire the fuel injectors and ignite the spark plugs. The PCM compares this signal to the signal from the crankshaft to determine if the engine is timed properly. Newer vehicles use a variable timing system to adjust the timing of the camshaft in relation to the crankshaft to increase fuel efficiency and performance. If the Camshaft is not in the proper position relative to the crankshaft, the PCM will set code P0019.

What causes this problem with the Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation?

• The check engine light would start indicating an issue with the camshaft timing

P0019 is properly diagnosed with an advanced scan tool capable of factory sensor readings (not just one from an auto parts store). A qualified technician can read the data from the advanced scan tool to determine when the problem occurred, or if it is still occurring. They may clear the code/light and test drive the vehicle while monitoring the scan tool data to see if the fault returns or is present.
