About Compressor
The AC compressor is the power unit of the air conditioning system which performs the job of putting high pressure on the coolant before it gets pumped into the condenser, where it gets converted into liquid from a gas state of matter. The compressor is a vital part of the air-conditioning system. The perfect working of a compressor is very important and is responsible for providing optimum output to the air-conditioning system. In most vehicles, A/C compressors are operated by an engine-accessory belt.
What is the purpose of Compressor?
The AC compressor's main purpose is to put the refrigerant under high pressure and to pump it into the condenser, where it is converted from a gas into a liquid. It's the most important component of the air conditioning system in your vehicle. It's responsible for pressuring the refrigerant to cool the air, sensing changes in your car's temperature inside and outside, keeping the temperature output checked and controlled, and moving the air to the condenser.
How Compressor Works?
As the compressor draws off the evaporator in the refrigerant air, this leads to a decrease in the evaporator pressure. It makes the refrigerant evaporate at low temperatures, due to the low pressure. The compressor then compresses this cold vapor. The refrigerant gas that is heated at the time of compression is transmitted to the condenser via pipes, and it liquefies again in the condenser and in the process gives off the heat. Then it is redirected to the area to be cooled and here the refrigerant absorbs the heat from the air flowing through the passenger compartment of the vehicle and at the evaporator it transforms back through gas again. Once again the compressor draws in the refrigerant air, where it is compressed. The compressor is usually mounted to the block of the engine and is driven by a pulley and a V-belt.
Where is Compressor Located?
Despite the slightly different design and configuration of each vehicle, the AC compressor in vehicles is usually located in the engine bay somewhere in the configuration for the accessory belt. They can be found by simply following the AC hoses.
