About PCV valve
Commonly referred to as the positive crankcase ventilation valve or the PCV valve along with the hose, it connects to the engine crankcase, where the crankcase is installed and further to the intake manifold. It enables the lower half of the engine to release gases and pressure at the time when the engine is functioning. This control device sends partially burned gases to the combustion chamber. It is one of the most used and oldest emission control devices.
What is the purpose of PCV valve?
The PCV valve is a mechanism that is essential for preventing the presence of engine corrosion. It removes the crankcase emissions and keeps the system free of moisture. To elaborate, it prevents the toxic gases from staying in the engine block. There is a vacuum hose which connects the intake manifold and the PCV valve all together.
How PCV valve works?
It is undeniable that the PCV valve performs the essential task of preventing the toxic gases from entering the engine block. It starts functioning as soon as the exhaust gases enter the engine block. The PCV valve includes a spring-loaded plunger that plays the role of redirecting the flow of the gases out of the crankcase and into the intake manifold. Then, the gases flow back into the combustion cylinders of the engine where they ignite again during the next combustion procedure.
Where is PCV valve located?
The PCV valve is generally found in the valve cover where it is plugged into a rubber grommet. Often, it can be found on or near the intake manifold. A hose leading to the PCV valve is held together by a clamp.
