The exhaust pipe flange gasket is a ring-shaped gasket which normally stops leaking exhaust from the exhaust pipe and a vehicle exhaust manifold. Also known as a donut gasket. Both sides with a smooth surface of the exhaust flange gasket have a ring. Thanks to the rounded ends, the gasket is sealed such that a circular stretching force is applied to the gasket surface.
What is the purpose of Exhaust Pipe Flange Gasket?
The exhaust system of cars normally consists of three or four pieces. They are an exhaust header or manifold that lies immediately after the engine and may or may not have a downpipe that is typically accompanied by a catalytic converter. Then you got a B pipe then the muffler. Such parts have connections and, like most gaskets, these gaskets are ring-shaped parts, which create a seal between the two adjacent surfaces and avoid the leakage of exhaust gasses through the seams. After all, the hot exhaust gasses are expelled from the engine by a lot of pressure.
How Exhaust Pipe Flange Gasket Works?
Many flanges with a rubber gasket are meant to be used. With the rubber gasket closing up the flange, the rubber squeezes out. When the rubber is squeezed, a seal between the exhaust pipe and the manifold is formed.

Between the catalytic converter and the header pipe is the exhaust flange gasket known also as the donut gasket. The gas that flows through the exhaust system is further improved and resembles the manifold gasket as it is usually made of steel and resistant to high temperatures.
