Situated in the pull or armrest area of the vehicle, the power door lock switch is basically a rocker switch that enables you to lock and unlock all your car doors with a simple touch of a button. Nowadays, the newer vehicles come fitted with power door lock switch, unlike the older models that used manual lock switches.
What is the purpose of power door lock switch?
The power door lock switch sole purpose is to allow driver to lock and unlock all the doors of the vehicle with a single click. The door lock switch for the driver is either a separate switch or is integrated into the master control door lock switch.
How power door lock switch works?
Upon pressing the power door lock switch, it completes a circuit which sends a signal to a device called the body control module. Body control module that triggers door lock activators after receiving the signal from the switch whether it is a power remote or a door keypad. After that, these activators transfer the rod from the lock rod or lock cable to install or disengage the door handle. In older systems, the power door lock switches used to send signals directly to the door lock actuators which caused door locks to be locked and unlocked. Typically the power door lock switch has photos of a locked and unlocked padlock, which will allow you to know which side of the switch will trigger which feature.
