Honda Civic Iridium Plug
About Iridium Plug
A spark plug works by the mechanism of transmitting electrical current from an ignition system to a spark-ignition engine combustion chamber to ignite the compressed fuel/air mixture with an electrical spark, thus maintaining combustion pressure within the engine. Spark plug has the middle and side electrode with precious and other metals. The metal channels the high voltage from the spark plug wire into the spark plug so that it can flame through the small gap between the main electrode and the side electrode while exiting. It is the critical spark with which the cycle of combustion begins. Iridium spark plugs feature a fine wire center electrode designed to better conduct electrical energy and improve performance in the firing phase. This precious metal is high priced. Usually Iridium spark plugs are the most costly spark plug. Acceleration is improved when you turn to Iridium spark plugs. The throttle operation has a fast response and you can feel the difference compared to the original plug. Iridium spark plugs boost the performance of the engine as regards fuel. During conditions such as climbing hills, the extra power is evident, giving you a relaxed driving and touring experience. An Iridium spark plug's ultra-fine center electrode ensures a fast ignition and increases the starting characteristics of the engine. Such devices offer economic as well as environmental benefits. Iridium spark plugs boost the performance of the engine as regards fuel. The idling is smooth, and fuel economy is improved. Since Iridium spark plugs guarantee excellent ignition, the fuel is efficiently burned.
What is the purpose of Iridium Plug?
In the engine a spark ignites the fuel. It begins with the ignition coil, which converts extremely high voltage into low voltage. This high voltage is transmitted through the ignition cables to the spark plug where a spark is produced which ignites the engine fuel and drives the engine.
How Iridium Plug Works?
Electric current flows from the battery to the induction coil which raises the voltage to ignite the plugs. You need Spark Plugs to create a smooth burn. Each spark plug is connected to an ignition device. As the coil produces high voltage, electrical impulses travel through insulated plug wires from the ignition coil. Spark plugs allow voltage from a lower voltage battery in excess of 20,000 Volts. When the voltage reaches the dielectric strength of the gases, a spark jumps the gap at the firing end of the tube, and the mixture of air and fuel is ignited.
Where is Iridium Plug Located?
Iridium spark plugs are installed onto the cylinder head of the engine.
