door below:
Remove the Factory Fuel Door
Step 1
First of all, you should remove and replace the
factory fuel door. There would be two screws or two rivets on the left side of
the round housing. Then the screws should be removed. Or else utilize the
17/64” drill bit so that the rivets can be drilled out. Just be careful and go
slowly. The paint should be damaged when drilling. Now once the hole which
would be in rivet would start to widen, then the drill should be tilted in
various directions so that enough of the rivet material can be removed to
weaken and give way.
Step 2
Once the rivets or screws would be removed, then the
plastic shroud should be loosened up to hold the cap as well as hose by
removing the two screws above the shroud as well as the plastic clip below.
There are some automobiles which would have a fuel cap which would be attached
to the shroud and then they would remain there. There would be other
automobiles which would the cap attached to the factory hinge. Now in this
case, the cap should be unscrewed and then it should be allowed to hang from
the hinge. Then it would be removed later on.
Step 3
The shroud out of the way should be pushed, and then
the factory fuel door and hinge would start sliding out. The two rubber
stoppers should not be removed on the right side of the opening.
Install the Empire Fuel Door
Step 1
The Empire fuel door hinge should be inserted into the
hole in the similar location as the factory hinge. The (2) 10-24 x ¾” head
screws should be utilized to attach the hinge to your automobile. After that
the next step would be to ensure that the door plate should be level and it
should be centered inside the opening. The two screws which would be just
installed should be utilized and then the four screws which would be attached
to the hinge to the fuel door face plate to centre and then the face should be
rotated as per the requirement.
Step 2
Now once the face plate would be levelled and
cantered, then the door should be shut and then the key should be turned lock a
lot of times so that the door should open up freely. The door should be
repositioned if there would be difficulty in turning the key. Now if the plate
would not be aligned in the right manner, then the plunger might start binding
and then it would result in the car door not opening.
Step 3
Now if you would shut the door and then it would not
open after turning the key, then it would mean that the plunger which is
holding the door closed would be pressing very tightly to the automobile. If
you want to release the plunger, then you will have to get under the automobile
by utilizing a flashlight and then the plunger should be pushed back with the
finger. Now once the plunger would be released, then the door would start
springing open and then the door would be re-aligned so that the plunger would
not bind.
Step 4
Now once the door would be seated properly, and then
the door would open up and then close easily, then the mounting screws should
be tightened up and then the screws which would be holding the shroud should be
reinstalled. If the fuel cap would be attached to the factory hinge, then it
should be pulled free by squeezing the two pins which would hold it to the
hinge. After that the plastic piece should be pushed into the hole which would
be provided on the Empire hinge until it would snap in.
Step 5
Now once it would be completed, then the fuel door
would be ready for the utilization. It is recommended that one key should be
kept on the ignition key chain and then the other should be inside the
automobile so that it is ensured that you would have it available when
refuelling.
