Tips To Keep Your Car Running Forever

Millions of Canadians rely on their car for their day-to-day activities. Hence we would like to remind you that there are many ways in which you can take care of your car. With basic car maintenance, care, and diagnosis, you can prolong your vehicle’s life. Here are a few things:

Maintenance schedule

Every car has an owner’s manual. Car manufacturers know exactly what your car needs to make it look new. Still, there are many car owners who pay little or no attention to the vehicle maintenance schedule. The maintenance schedule will let you know the different mileage intervals and services your car has to undergo to keep it in excellent shape. You will also find tips on what you should keep an eye on. Not following the maintenance schedule is inexcusable, especially in the late model cars. When you fail to follow these recommendations, you end up replacing the car parts before its time. Some of the regular maintenance practices such as oil and filter changes every 8000 km – 12,000 km, timing belt changes at every 60,000 - 80,000 miles, performing tire rotations, replacing brake pads and rotors when necessary will help your vehicle stay on the road for more kms. You can also check:

Check Engine Fluids, Oil, and Tire Pressure

Checking engine fluids usually takes about 10 minutes to complete the process. Automotive experts recommend performing this task at least once a week or month while the engine is cool. The engine oil is the most important fluid which needs a check. Additionally, you can also check the coolant level in the radiator, power steering fluid, and brake fluid. As you check the power steering fluid make sure to look at the hoses and belts for signs of wear and tear. Finally, you’ll have to ensure that each tire has a proper PSI by using the tire pressure gauge. Tire pressure has to be checked every alternate week so as to ensure the safety of the vehicle. Regular vehicle servicing is the inspection and replacement of important fluids in the vehicle. Our article on how to maintain your car by frequently replacing these 8 fluids will help you with more information.

Pay Attention To Odd Noises

Listen to the odd noises that your engine makes during idle or when moving or braking. Usually, your vehicle sputters, whines, screeches, grinds, or makes other loud noises. These strange noises usually mean new brakes have to be installed, the timing belt has to be replaced, or it could be any other repairs. When you hear such unusual noise or cannot pinpoint the source of noise, take the car to a mechanic to get more information. You might save a minor repair from becoming a major one.
