About Rear Wheel Bearings
Many rear-wheel-drive automobiles with solid beam rear axles use straight roller bearing designs, often with multiple rows of bearings. In other situations, the axle tubes also serve as races for certain bearings . Straight roller bearings are cylindrically designed and have a constant diameter straight across their complete length, comparable to a log. Since the radial loads put on them are distributed uniformly over a much wider point of contact, they are suitable for certain heavy-duty applications. The downside of straight roller bearings is that their design does not allow them to withstand large loads of thrust. Bearing assemblies with smaller diameter straight roller bearings are frequently found in confined quarters such as gearboxes. Tapered bearings are often most widely found in the wheel bearing assemblies placed within wheel hubs. The rollers seem to have a cylindrical shape, but they're all tapered to one side. They are put inside bearing assemblies that are cone-shaped because the structure allows this form to withstand heavy quantities of radial strain, thrust loads, and hard shocks. Some manufacturers use one bearing assembly with tapered roller bearings, while others place these assemblies next to each other, facing in different directions.
The bearing is used to minimize friction. With no wheel bearing in your vehicle, the tire might slip rather than roll. When wheel bearings disintegrate and cannot roll, drivers will notice a significant change as they drive. If the rear wheel bearing becomes bad, it will generate noise when driving, and the sound will become higher as we push the gas pedal. For the longer lifespan of the bearing, lubrication is important. It eliminates heat from heavily loaded bearings and also prohibits corrosion. Oil and grease are ideal lubricants for bearings. The wheel seal is built to fit tightly into the wheel assembly and shields the wheel bearings against dirt, water, and other contaminants that may cause serious damage. There is a large amount of grease within the wheel bearing that keeps the bearings working smooth, cool, and stable. However, when the wheel seal becomes loose, the grease may leak from the wheel bearing. This can weaken the bearing of the wheel and can even stall the car.
