About Caster/Camber Adjusting Kits
The suspension on each vehicle is designed for certain angles of wheel alignment which ensure the vehicle's safe handling and uniform tire wear. Those angles are decided by taking the manufacturer's many considerations and calculations to suit that particular vehicle. Such angles can be influenced if, for different reasons, the ride height of the vehicle is altered. The angles of wheel alignment could also change as a result of the impacts taken over time by the suspension. In general, a wheel alignment operation is performed to restore the alignment angles. Such angles may however be changed using camber caster modification kits that are available in the aftermarket. They offer a range in which the angles could be changed according to their design. The kit includes cam heads which offer provision based on their orientation to change the alignment angles.
What is the purpose of Caster/Camber Adjusting Kits?
When installed, a camber caster adjustment kit allows the wheel alignment angles, camber, and caster to be changed which would otherwise not be possible. An OEM suspension mounts would not allow this angle change, since it is produced in accordance with fixed specifications.
How Caster/Camber Adjusting Kits Works?
There are various aftermarket kits available. But they all function on the same principle. Cams are mounted in the mounting areas. These cams change the alignment angles when changed location. The change in cam position shifts the positions of the control arms or the strut shaft resulting in camber or caster adjustment.
Where is Caster/Camber Adjusting Kits Located?
They may be replaced by the OEM upper strut mounting or may also be replaced by the control arm mountings depending on the type of package.
