Should i be replacing both calipers or just the on that has failed ?

Its highly recommened to replace both calipers regardless if only one has failed, as the new caliper has a quicker reaction time when compressing the pad to the rotor this could cause the vehicle to brake unevenly causing the vehicle to lean.

Can i just use my old pads from my old caliper ?

Old pads come with added attributes such as rust and worn on support clips, Always ensure to insert new brake pads on a new caliper to make sure that braking power is optimal and responsive.

Should i replace my rotors too ?

Accepted Answer

Yes, When your at the point where calipers have failed the rotors may have strong grooving on them from the failed caliper assembly where its metal on metal. Replace them to avoid pivoting of any sort with your new caliper assembly.

Can you change a caliper without bleeding brakes?

Accepted Answer

You are going to have the hoses disconnected and open to the air. The new caliper will need bleeding. You're going to replace 50% of the fluid that stays in the old caliper, leaks out of the disconnected hoses or is used to bleed the system anyhow so why not.

What happens if you don't bed in brakes?

If you do not properly bed your rotors, your vehicle will not deliver optimal braking performance. Braking systems that are not broken in will have random, uneven deposits of brake pad material on the rotors.
