Here are some steps with the help of which you can replace your brake pedal pads & bushings:

Step 1

The first and foremost step is to activate the emergency brake on your vehicle so that you can prevent it from rolling while you are busy working with the pedals. The driver’s side floor mat should be removed so that the access to the bolts underneath the accelerator can be gained. The floor mat should be placed on the ground carefully so that you will be able to kneel on it while the pedal covers are removed and installed.

Step 2

After that it is essential to pry the factory brake pedal cover off with your fingers. Your fingers should slide underneath the top portion of the pedal cover and then it should be lifted upward. The cover should slide off with ease when the top portion would be removed. The clutch pedal cover should be removed by inserting the flat end of the screwdriver into the slit between the cover and the metal pedal on the right side. Then it should be twisted and the pedal cover would pop off.

Step 3

The accelerator cable and retainer at the top portion of the accelerator pedal should be removed. The nuts that connect the accelerator pedal to the floor can easily be removed by the 13 mm wrench. The entire accelerator pedal should be removed as well as the bar by pulling it out from the automobile after the nuts have been removed.

Step 4

The punch should be placed into the pin area of the pedal bracket that would connect the pedal to the assembly and hammer the pin until it would almost come fully out. Then the factory pedal should be removed from the metal assembly.

Step 5

The metal portion of the pedals should be cleaned properly with a clean shop towel and degreaser. If there is any dust or grime left by the old pedal covers, then it would be removed by this step.

Step 6

A new accelerator pedal should be installed by placing the pin through the mounting hole in the back of the pedal. It should then be secured to the metal accelerator assembly. The accelerator assembly should be replaced in the same manner in which it was removed earlier. The 13 mm nuts should be tightened into the floor and then the accelerator cable and retainer should be reattached.

Step 7

Four cups of water should be poured into the small saucepan and then they are placed on the stove. The brand-new brake and clutch pedal covers should be put in the pan. It should boil approximately two to three minutes. The stove should be turned off and then the saucepan should be removed from the burner. The hot pedals should be removed with tongs and they should be placed on a clean dry cloth to dry. It should be allowed to cool for approximately one to two minutes before you start handling with your bare hands. The rubber portion of the pedal cover should be stretched over the top part of the brake pedal and then you must work your way down. This step should be repeated for the clutch pedal cover.
