Correct bolt hole spacing and the ring gear teeth enhance the flex plate's service life. The engine and transmission are connected by flex plates, allowing the torque converter to expand as the engine RPM rises. The majority of flex plates are comprised of thick sheet metal with torque converter bolt holes and starter teeth. Over time, a flex plate's continual expansion and contraction might result in cracks and/or shearing. Flexplates that have been broken cannot be fixed; they must be replaced.
